Utterly shocked, but not suprised..if that makes sense. I think everyone knew he'd die like that, rather than in his sleep as an old man.

Television personality and environmentalist Steve Irwin has died in a marine accident in north Queensland, state government sources say.

The 44-year-old is believed to have been killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest, the sources said.

He was filming an underwater documentary off Port Douglas when the accident occurred.

Mr Irwin's body was being flown to Cairns by helicopter.

Gosh. I am surprised and I don't know what to say. I wasn't a fan but that's an awful way to go and he leaves behind a young family so RIP, crocodile man.

I'm shocked! I used to watch his show all the time when I was in college. I'm still hoping maybe this is fake...though it looks pretty credible. Damn.

I could never stand the guy, but I'm just completely stunned. For some reason this shocks me more than any other celeb death I can remember. You would've thought we'd seen it coming, I mean the guy wrestles crocs for a living.

Oh god, this was just posted at ONTD...

It's believed Mr Irwin's American-born wife Terri is trekking on Cradle Mountain in Tasmania and has yet to be told of her husband's death.

That is horrible if true.
