Bindi was a real daddy's girl on the show. I feel so bad for her especially.

Sad news. His poor wife and kids.
I always thought he was a little over the top with some of his antics, but generally a good guy, committed to conservation.

Bindi was a real daddy's girl on the show. I feel so bad for her especially. Apparently, the documentary he was filming was for Bindi's show. Steve had explained that he was as attached to her as she was to him. So I suppose he died doing something for his daughter. Not that that'd be much consolation. According to a close friend* of Steve's who was in North QLD with Steve, there had been bad weather for the last couple of days. Steve was someone who couldn't sit still for more than five seconds, so he had been getting quite antsy. He decided this morning to go out and film a few bits for Bindi's documentary. This segment had been aimed at demystifying the stingray. Sad bit of irony there. ETA: *John Stainton.

This is making me sad. His poor wife and children.
I'm happy a crocodile didn't kill him, though. I just think that would have made the whole thing much, much worse.
I hope as well that the footage never makes it's way on to the net, but I'm sure it will. Hell, his wife might even release it as part of a documentary, you never know. People are different and grieve differently and he is the man who fed a croc while holding his baby and then shrugged off criticism.
I don't know, I could just see her releasing the footage at some point down the road. Because this is how he lived, how they lived and his death is very fitting of his life.
Not that I personally would watch it.

From the article december linked:
Now I'm thinking of his kids. First, a show where he was inside a fish tank, wearing scuba gear, and looked out and waved to Bindi, who waved back...so adorable! And the controversy about Baby Bob, and someone saying, "Well, he knows what he's doing," and someone else saying, "Until a few weeks ago, you could have said the same thing about Seigfried and Roy." Sigh.

Not that I personally would watch it. I don't see a problem with putting together what was recorded and releasing it in his memory. As long as they don't show his actual death, and it's put together respectfully, I could see it as a fitting tribute. I can't see Terri releasing the actual footage of his death, to be honest. I think that would be absolutely traumatising for the kids. As nutty as Terri and Steve came across at times (and did they ever!), I imagine consideration for Bindi and Bob will come first.

Adding on to my own post earlier. John Stainton said that Steve was stung right in the heart. They brought him back to his research boat, where they tried CPR for 30+ minutes until medics arrived, who then pronounced him dead. It's likely, according to John, that Steve was killed instantly and never felt a thing. The documentary will be shown on Animal Plant in January. Terri is on her way to the Sunshine coast from Tasmania.
It's hard to show online, but John was obviously trying very hard (with little success) to hold back his tears. Really really sad.

Just heard the news. RIP Steve Irwin. So sad, I loved his show and he seemed like such a nice guy and a real family man. My heart goes out to his family.
