I'm not surprised in the least. Chris has always seemed restless in that marriage. He got cheating at least once, and even has an outside baby (if I'm remembering correctly). She always seemed out of his league, and he always came off as a constant disappointment.

I thought the outside baby wasn't proven to be his, although there was a vaguely guarded statement.
Oh well. Nineteen years is pretty respectable, and I hope no one did anything crummy or exceptionally cruel or hurtful.

I think Chris has A LOOOOT of issues with women. I was pleasantly suprised that Gabrielle Union's character was as nuanced as she was in Top Five. I hope they can amicably co-parent their beautiful daughters. He seems devoted to them.

It is a shame that he is getting great reviews for his movie and apparently bad reviews in his marriage.

I adore Chris Rock and think he's one of the funniest comedians of his generation, but I would never want to be married to him. Oh well, they stuck it out for a long time and have two great kids, so I wouldn't call it a failure.

Heh, I thought I was the only one who noticed that Malaak's thought bubble always said "Ugh, I can do so much better than this". Rock has mentioned several times that Husbands and Wives and Manhattan are some of his favourite movies, so yeah, I think his feelings about commitment and fidelity are probably complicated.

Yeah. From what I remember he was cheating but the paternity suit showed the baby wasn't his. (Which tells me he's smart enough to be careful). I mean, when one of your most famous stand-up bits has the line, "A man is only as faithful as his options," a divorce isn't going to be a surprise. This was probably coming for a long time.

I have nothing really to add, but my favorite book is Jane Eyre. I wonder what that says about my ideas about marriage and fidelity...hmm.

I guess I should go ahead and retain a good lawyer. spoiler: Man gets girlfriend pregnant, drowns her so he can be with his richer, prettier girlfriend instead. (Long, but excellent book for those of you that like the classics.)

Pretty much. I wonder if she listened to any of his routines or had to tune them out for her sanity. My favorite book is An American Tragedy. (Long, but excellent book for those of you that like the classics.) I've tried reading An American Tragedy and find the literary style too strident and preachy for my tastes, but A Place in the Sun is probably one of my favorite movies ever!
