I would hope that his wife knows that he loves her and he doesn't have to declare it to the public for her to feel comforted.

I would hope that his wife knows that he loves her and he doesn't have to declare it to the public for her to feel comforted. There were rampant rumors a few months ago that they were on the verge of divorce and there's recent talk that they're only together until sometime after this movie because it would be a PR disaster for him to have split before this movie.

I hate to be the dissenter, but I think his stand-up is hilarious, especially the earlier material. My dad, who is the whitest person I know, and I regularly quote from "Bringing the Pain" and "Bigger and Blacker."

Chris was really funny on Howard Stern this morning. He and Malaak are still married, but he tried hard to discourage Howard from getting married again. Which was fair since Howard was the guy who "counseled" every single guy about the misery of marriage until he decided to get engaged. Frankly, I don't understand why some guys get married at all since they view it like a prison sentence, but whatever. I guess "the grass is always greener'. At least Bill Maher, who I generally hate, puts his money where his mouth is and hasn't gotten married. (Right?)

I love his stand-up specials, too, but from what I've heard I don't like him very much as a person.

Apparently, Louis CK (of Lucky Louie, the other "I kinda hate my wife" show of HBO besides Binder's) is the cowriter of his movie. Which I still have such mixed feelings for - I'm, like, wow, this looks like it sucks - oh wait, it's a remake of a Criterion film? Hmm... The video of him talking about Jeni is here - did it play better in context? Because it seems *really* offensive on its own. I just read the entire thread and on the whole misogynist or not issue, I'm going with misogynist. My friend gave me this fantastic book called Movie Stars Do the Dumbest Things and I've never been able to get this Chris Rock anecdote out of my head since I read it - Chris was in a club and hit on some random girl - random girl knew he was married and said "where's your wife?" Chris's response? "At home. Where all good wives belong." (or something to that effect).

It no longer exists. I hate when that happens Anyway, I happened to catch it on tv when Rock was on Letterman. He was hyperactive and seemed to struggle with the whole issue. I got the feeling he knew everyone was waiting to see what he would say, since the press said he and Jeni were best buds. Meanwhile, Rock was supposed to be appearing to promote his movie. That's some pressure....acknowledge your friend's death AND get the movie promotion in. I don't care for Chris Rock myself but I thought he did okay.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I've been trying to find the Chris Rock stand up that Michael Scott from The Office impersonates. Would anyone know which stand up that is from? It's so funny when Steve Carrel does it, that I've been dying to see the original as a reference point.

True, but I suspect that Bill's got the "I only date whores* so I don't have to feel bad about never really having to commit" syndrome. * meant in the madonna/whore complex sense, not a judgement on any of his past Playmate/ video model/ porn star girlfriends
