Actress NATALIE PORTMAN impressed everyone on the Berlin set of her latest film V FOR VENDETTA when she started speaking fluent German.

Unlike many actors, who would be silenced by the language barrier,
linguistic Portman, 23, immediately started communicating in the native language.

A source says, "She just turned up one day talking German. It has made her very popular with the Germans on the crew."

The STAR WARS actress, educated at top American university HARVARD, is fluent in Hebrew, French and Japanese, as well as German.

I would just like to point out that Natalie Portman does not speak French and Japanese, and it is unlikely that she speaks German either.

Wow everyone is right, she is the epitome of class! I mean those pictures really show her otherworldy superiority.
I think she's just an overhyped, moderately talented girl with average looks, and a personality like a rice cake. However, I am impressed she managed to graduate from Harvard when most actresses never come close to finishing school, but I don't think she's a genius and her attitude just bugs.

Portman relaxes a little as she shifts towards a more general assessment of the pitfalls facing young stars who elect to pursue further education.

What with being able to afford books easily and lavish off campus housing. And the safety of well armed bodyguards.

"A lot of people would prefer to hate you," she says. "They'd rather say, 'She's snobby,' or whatever. I've been working since I was 12 - I've always had to deal with it."

Makes me want to vomit. It's called observing behavior. Besides, if you are a famous celeb, people are going to feel that way if you act like a pretentious snot or 'old soul', you're going to get a lot of flack. BEsides, I believe that famous people in general should make a tremendous effort to be polite and affable. It should even come naturally if one is making millions and seeing the world.

Portman's relationship with her mother and father is unlikely to end in a messy court case; they've been careful to remain parents rather than business managers, even to the point of footing the bill for their daughter's education.

Now this is just stupid. She has millions.

"I'm not puritanical, but you definitely see a lot of drug use because people are bored," she says. "You see these affluent kids who have nothing better to do - it's a real epidemic of the suburbs. When I was in middle school I knew people who were working at a vet's office so they could steal stuff, animal tranquillisers or whatever."

Call the fucking police idiot. That's stealing and you are an accessory if you see it going on and don't report it. As for myself, I grew up in suburbia and the only people doing it are the stoners.

Portman says she was never a wild child before becoming the poised and sensible young woman she is today. "I got drunk a couple of times in high school. I partied in college, but it was pretty mild. It wasn't exactly a party school."

How is getting drunk at parties a poised and sensible thing to do? It's a complete contradiction. Underage drinking too and getting drunk. I briefly remember hearing about her birthday party where she wore stilettos and grinded against a guy on a table.

While she was at Harvard the college paper published a vicious anti-Israeli article, and Portman wrote back to defend her mother country with equal vehemence.

But refuses to join the IDF. The rest of the article is one long ass kissing. Read the part about politics, another direct contradiction.

This explains my feelings over the film, except that in my opinion she should have looked a but wearier and stressed. A little bit of wrinkle and less naivete would have been better

Hahha. I understand the point of this little piece of heaven on earth is to hate Natalie, but still -- some of the logic used in a few of the arguments is lacking. It's stretching the available evidence sometimes to come up with the reasoning for accusations against her: for example by mixing Natalie's quotes with the interviewer's words (or the re-hasher's words, most of it is just copy and paste journalism) and then projecting their own beliefs (or the writer's beliefs) on to Natalie's motivations.

The story from the tabloid about her suddenly speaking in fluent German is really funny. It sounds like next she might start speaking in tongues. But it seems illogical to somehow blame that tabloid's claim on Portman.

Also, by doing a little background checking, we can see it's fairly plausible that Natalie Portman does speak at least some Japanese and French. According to information taken from her 1999 high school graduation program, she took AP classes and graduated with honors and awards in French and Japanese. Didn't she study those languages in college, as well? So saying that she doesn't speak French and Japanese is probably not true either.

But that's okay. I realize people don't always use logic or factual evidence to get their Hate on.

I do agree that venturing a hand down into the ass-crack region while standing in a public viewing area is not an elegant move at all. That picture really makes me laugh.

My issue with her in SW is that you can tell she doesn't want to be there and it effects her work. If you don't like the movie, that's fine, but don't ruin it for the viewers.

Well, she has had an easy time of it. And yes, it is an immature way to handle being bored. Considering the places she goes to, I would think that she would be able to be a little excited. But she affects this snooty world weary know-it-all attitude and it's a little difficult to feel sorry for her as a result.
