Many years ago (too many for me to sit and think about), when she was still doing the stand-up comedy tours, I was lucky enough to see her in a small club in Dallas. She was great. She did this one gag where she was talking about women's restrooms and how a woman managed to pee all over the seat. Unfortunately, it's a physical gag and typing it out just won't mean much. I've always had a soft spot for her and while I may be completely wrong, she seems very grounded and down-to-earth, even after all she's achieved.
She's a celebrity I'd love to meet.

I've heard some good things and some bad things about Ellen, but the person I'd really like to meet is her mother. She seems like a really cool person.

I'm mostly neutral on her. She seems nice and like a decent person but she's one of the least funny comedians I've ever seen or heard. I've watched a lot of her standup, especially early 90s stuff, and I just sat there wondering when the funny would begin.

I was watching a little bit of one of her stand up routines yesterday on Comedy Central and she was doing the bit about having a conversation with someone and then realizing that you haven't been paying attention. Suddenly you're coming back into the conversation and the other person says something about leotards and you have NO idea what they're talking about. Her facial expressions, timing, and tone are all perfect for this story. I saw that yesterday! I'm cracking up just thinking about it now. I think she's really funny. And seems like a nice, genuine person.

I'm too poor to enjoy her stand-up comedy. Let me explain that. I watched her "Here and Now" DVD and the whole routine is all about the qwerkiness of modern day technologies and all the silly little problems such stuff brings to our lives, and I just couldn't get into any of it because I don't talk all day on a cell phone while I'm driving an SVU and drinking a $6.00 latte on my way to the movie theatre to spend $14.00 on soda and popcorn, and while most of those things are of no interest to me, if I were to have them, damn it, I'd try to enjoy them rather than bullshitting about the good ol' days when people talked face-to-face and used the card catalog at the library, or whatever.
I was surprised when I watched that DVD. I guess I expected her to do a more risque routine she can't do on daytime television. I like her well enough and I have nothing against her, but her style really doesn't appeal to me too much.

Ellen is one of the few standups who doesn't swear in her routines. Probably because her mother is in the audience. Her line delivery and comic timing is impeccable though.

What I like most about her is that she always looks like she is genuinely enjoying herself, whether on her show or on the red carpet.

I feel sorry for her cos she's taken advantage of by these crazy girlfriends, and I also detect a little selloutishness when I see her daytime show. Its all the same zany off the wall things over and over, plus I think she had a little cosmetic surgery to correct the tip of her nose, its not so droopy now.
Not that cosmetic surgery is bad etc but I just never thought she would be the type, you know, cos I knew her so well after seeing her sitcom and reading a few People stories on her. I NEVER saw it coming!

I love Ellen. I was almost didn't come into this thread because I was worried there would be something assy or annoying that she did and then I wouldn't enjoy her as much.
But yes, I think the thing that I love most is how much fun she seems to have.

I've heard some good things and some bad things about Ellen, but the person I'd really like to meet is her mother. She seems like a really cool person. Her mom does seem cool, but I read an article about them once that made me not like her mom too much. Apparently, her mom's husband (not Ellen's dad) molested Ellen as a teenager. She didn't tell her mom for years, and when she finally did tell her mom... her mom stayed with the man for another 10 years or so. Ellen was very forgiving and said that her mom dealt with the news in her own way, but it really bugged me reading that. Not a great way to treat your kid.
