Oh my god, I had no idea she was molested.
And wow, her mother stayed with that man for another ten years? And she is still so close to her mum? Jeepers. She is a far more forgiving person than I would be.

Like many others in this thread, I adore Ellen. After Eddie Izzard, she is my favorite stand-up comedian. I guess I can see where others wouldn't find her (or Eddie, for that matter) that funny, but it's the same thing as me not thinking Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle are funny either. Different stokes.
Ellen's comedic timing, and the way she starts babbling about a million different topics in a couple minutes are so funny to me. It's exactly why the director of Nemo, Andrew Stanton, had to have her for Dory, who was originally envisioned as a male. Stanton watched Ellen's stand up routine and knew she was perfect. How right he was. Dory is one of the greatest Pixar characters ever.

I think (she's only discussed it recently) that she tried to keep her molestation fairly quiet, and when she did say anything, made a point of her sexuality having nothing to do with that experience. Which is a little sad, that things like that still need to be said.
I love the mention of Eddie Izzard with her; they both have that same meandering observational based humour with an absurd edge, but are totally totally different. I think both of them have fairly timeless humour; I can find Chris Rock hilarious but I don't think his stand up will still be funny in 15 years.

Slightly O/T . . . . I often wonder about the correlation because every single gay person I know was molested. As for Ellen, love her and her ability to make fun of herself.

Correlation? I know, OT, but I can't ignore this statement. Molestation doesn't make a gay person. Lots of gay people grew up in very happy, healthy households, and many people who were molested grew up to be straight...
There isn't much I don't like about Ellen. I like that babbling observational humor. She also seems to genuinely like animals. I hope I age like her. Not in looks, but in attitude. She acts young without it seeming desperate.

Who said molestation makes a person gay? Settle down, merely stating what I have encountered, you can put your dukes down.

My dukes were not presented. You were suggesting a correlation between molestation and homosexuality since every gay person you know was molested and I was simply stating my opinion that there is no correlation between gayness and molestation. Sheesh.
Before we get an OT slapdown from the mods, I'll stay on topic...
In addition to liking Ellen as a person, I really like the way they dress her on the show. I know she isn't a fan of girly looks, but I think she has a style that is neither masculine or feminine. She has worn this really cool blazer with an argyle print on it that I absolutely covet.

When Tulane University (my alma mater) held its first graduation after Hurricane Katrina, she was one of the speakers at the graduation, along with Bill Clinton and George Bush (Sr.). She came out in a bathrobe and said, "They told me everyone would be in robes!"
