The fanciest hunters and best jumpers do go for a lot of money, but (a) the vast majority of us competing at these shows don't have or spend anything like that kind of money and (b) I ride at the same level of difficulty as Portia does (her show results are often posted online, so I know what classes she's entering), and I'll reiterate that she's not doing aaaaaanything that would necessitate a bank-breaking horse. Jessica Springsteen -- not that an $800,000 horse isn't ridiculously expensive -- is a talented kid who is riding in the ranks of people who go on to the Olympics and then become professionals in the field.
More on topic, do we have any more information about whether Ellen and Portia are still a couple?

I can't help but find the idea of buying someone a horse to make them love you funny. Sure as hell would buy my heart! Topic? I've always considered Ellen Degeneres pretty inoffensive, but there's something just not right about how she or her people handled the situation. It may be mean of me, but if she thought using her fame would get her what she wanted, I'm glad that it's beginning to blow up in her face.

I guess I am just not getting the big deal here, what else is she supposed to do with pets she doesn't want? Shoot them? Abandon them? I would think it would be consider more humane to give them to friends, than dropping off at a shelter on the off chance they'll get adopted.
I've come to the conclusion that both parties are off their rockers, and need to get some perspective.

...that's the kind of deal Ellen made for Portia, probably to impress her. I can't help but find the idea of buying someone a horse to make them love you funny. Did anyone hear about 7 months ago about Portia home was going into forclosure until Ellen paid off her loan? And there's this, which I remember hearing at the time: Portia snaps, Ellen jumps. The countdown on this one can begin, methinks.

Everytime I open this thread I'm expecting to read that Ellen jumped sneakers first off the Hollywood sign.

Ellen seem to have a big heart I really feel she was giving Iggy to a family with a great home and little girls who would give Iggy lots of love and attention.

Ellen does seem to have a big heart... I think she's just a little unbalanced; particularly in her relationships. I like her, though - she annoys me, but I like her.
Portia though... I'm not so sure about her.

Ann Heche could of put Ellen over the edge or both of them went over the edge. Portia doesn't look good she is losing weight she doesn't look healthy to me. Ellen is the care giver for Portia and her mom.
