Normally, I don't like Ellen, but I have to give her props for this. But I'm anti the strike anyway.
Imagine planning a vacation to include tickets to your favorite show, and then being disappointed there's nothing you can see, not even a substitute. NY may be facing a Broadway stagehand walkout tonight, and I'm picturing all the poor tourists who dreamed of seeing a Broadway show (maybe on a once in a lifetime trip), who may not be able to do it.

Because I am mean I hope there is a Broadway strike! That way I won't be inundated with tourists as I walk near Times Square. On topic, I wonder if this will cost Ellen anything in terms of cred with other writers.

Sorry, but one of my favorite memories is of me and my best friend on one of our first ever trips without parents... We went to N.Y.C. and saw a Broadway musical. We felt so grown up and sophisticated! I'm sure we annoyed a lot of people by being one block from the theatre but still frantically asking strangers if we were on the right track. But I don't recall a single person being rude or impatient with us. So, yeah, I'm with the people who sympathize with those for whom live theatre or a show like this is a big deal, and maybe planned a whole vacation around it.

Anyone who plans a vacation around The Ellen Degeneres Show needs to rethink their priorities in life.

She takes two days off for some dumb dog (and she couldn't have cared less about vacationers from Bumblefuck USA) but only one day for her own writers?
FU Ellen.

Anyone who plans a vacation around The Ellen Degeneres Show needs to rethink their priorities in life. Yeah, that's true... Damn, I'm so easily thrown into doubt! Thank god that the world doesn't depend upon my decision-making abilities! Still, I like to think the best of her. I'm so tired of being disillusioned with celebs. I rarely really fall for one and when I do and it turns out they're ass-hats, well, I guess I feel like I've been betrayed a little bit.

I agree - I would hope no one plans their vacations around an Ellen show, but I meant more in general. I understand some people like seeing live shows (although I'm not one of them), and it would be really upsetting to not be able to do it.
I do feel for the NY tourists - not only can they not go to "Letterman", but then to possibly not even be able to see a Broadway show would infuriate me.
I didn't know she took time off for the dog thing - I thought she was there crying for a week.

I am a former union organiser, so no more Ellen for me. For the most part, I liked her, but now, I will not watch anything she does. I will not bore anyone with a long discussion of my political feelings about workers rights, but on a personal level, how could she do this to people she works with on a daily basis, the people who give her the words that help to make her funny and successful? I hope I did not offend anyone, but I really believe that workers rights are the basis of human rights and someone who crosses a picket line...makes my blood boil.

Anyone who plans a vacation around The Ellen Degeneres Show needs to rethink their priorities in life. LOL!! So true... I think people who visit LA just for watching live shows usually have tickets to multiple places like game shows, sitcoms audiences and other live shows, so I highly doubt they will plan their whole trip on just one show. Personally, I find her show to be unbearable with all the dancing and the bad jokes. I am indifferent toward Ellen but sometimes she reminds me of a koala or panda bear, cute and harmless from a distance, but will scratch the shit out of you if you get too close.

She's a member of the WGA and she crossed the picket line. She's a scab, pure and simple. I'm done with her. And I wouldn't be surprised if this backfires on her when the strike is settled. If it bothers people like us, imagine how the WGA/SAG/DGA people are going to feel. She may have ended up fucking herself over badly.
