Karen Kilgariff (My Favourite Muder) was Ellen’s head writer for five years. When she refused to cross a picket line during the writer’s strike Ellen fired her and never spoke to her again.

I always give a side-eye to celebrities who have a “Don’t look at him/her. Don’t talk to him/her” rule.

I always give a side-eye to celebrities who have a “Don’t look at him/her. Don’t talk to him/her” rule. Same. If I worked for someone who told me not to look at him/her, I’d stare at them all the live long day. Or until they fired me, I guess

Any one keeping track of who's for Ellen?
From the NY Post Page Six: Portia de Rossi Scooter Braun Katy Perry Jerry O'Connell Nacho Figueras Diane Keaton Kevin Hart
And the against Ellen: Brad Garrett Lea Thompson
Wow, I'm underwhelmed. Where are all Ellen's friends from the Academy Awards selfie?

And her former DJ Tony came out confirming he experienced "toxicity" and in support of his former colleagues to fight for a better work space. I remember really liking him.
I don't put a lot of stock in people coming out "in support" of Ellen. I mean, I'm sure she wasn't cruel to every person she ever met. I also don't know that it would help her case if a bunch of high profile celebs came out to say she was nice to them. Then, imho, it looks like: Ellen is a really mean person unless you are really famous- cool story. I don't put a lot of stock in Portia coming out on her side. That's like me retorting with: Yeah- well my MOM thinks I'm special!
I mean, she likely does have people in her corner, as she should... family, true friends. That doesn't really have anything to do with the underlying issue though. It seems pretty clear (only because there are SO MANY people with stories) that there was/is meanness and cruelty occurring in her work place, and by her specifically. That she wasn't a mean bullly to every person she ever met isn't gonna make all the times she was ok, because it just (is looking like, anyways) is too pervasive to make excuses for.

Isn't Scooter Braun the jerk who took control of Taylor Swift's master recordings of her albums and won't allow her to use them? Yeah, not the best person to be coming to her defense.
I think the celebs speaking out for her are of the "well she was never mean to me" persuasion.
ETA: Don't know if anyone else has been following the Deux Moi IG account (@ deuxmoi), but they have a lot of stories of celeb encounters (good and bad) and Ellen comes up A LOT. People who have worked with her and encountered her in LA. One funny story there said that she has multiple Porsches in different colors and drives whatever one fits her mood. Apparently, when she drives the red one to the Ellen set, it's known to really, really stay out o her way - she's pissed.
Anyway, if you like reading about celeb encounters, check out that IG. I definitely sympathize with "having a bad day" but when the stories are consistently bad about a person, well, where there's smoke there's fire.

She hasn’t had a lot of celebrity defenders but the ones she has seem to be missing the issue. Of course she’s going to be nice to other celebrities and her friends. The problem is how she treats the people beneath her. I figured she probably wasn’t a nice person after the whole thing with the dog rescue group several years back though.

Isn't that basically the Julia Roberts vs Juliana Margulies story in a nutshell. "She's lovely...unless you're waiting on her." Someone mentioned Rosie O'Donnell upthread and I had forgotten that at one point in the early 2000s, Rosie basically WAS Ellen. America's Sweetheart talk show host, who was everywhere. I guess the variable there is that I *think* Rosie was still pretending to be straight then and it's possible that her reveal about her sexuality hurt her the same way Ellen's initially did with her sitcom. But at any rate, it's a precedent for how quickly an incredibly popular talk show host can fall from grace in the public's view.
