I saw an episode of 60 Minutes awhile ago and was taken aback about how sickly Ed looked. He looked very gaunt and drained. I hadn't read anything about him being ill, so I just chalked it up to him maybe getting over a stomach flu. I guess he had been battling this for awhile.
RIP, Ed. You were a man of great intellect and dignity and will be missed.

Brian Williams on NBC just paid a wonderful tribute to Ed's body of work. He said that very few people knew Ed had leukemia.

I was so shocked when my co-worker told me he had died. There was never anything out there about him being sick. He was one of the best things about 60 Minutes and he will be missed.

I am going to miss him terribly. He was truly an elegant, 2 feet on the ground kind of man and one of the last of the intelligent interviewers. *sigh* Such a loss...
