"60 Minutes" is doing a tribute to Ed. Now. And it's wonderful! When he was leaving the Vietnamese refugees on that island, I lost it. Ed was the shit. Not many like him left these days.

Yep. "Real" reporters are fading away and being replaced by "personalities" who act like they report news stories, but actually report their opinions about the stories.

Ed was a class act and a real pro.
People like Katie Couric? Not fit to shine his shoes.

An Ed Bradley remembrance - a summary of his careerWhat a great guy. It's only just hit me that he is really gone. RIP. News articles mention he has a surviving spouse Patricia Blanchet but I don't know if he had any children. I wonder when the funeral is. Most reports from late last week said it was still unconfirmed.

Last night on the 60 Minutes tribute they mentioned that he had no children.
I loved that they included his question to FUBAR in the tribute, "So do you still think that there's nothing wrong with having children sleep in your bed?" To which FUBAR, decked out in full-blown horrorface, says, "Of coooooooooourse." It's a testament to Ed's great professionalism that he didn't reach across and slap him in his wig.

I wasn't able to watch the 60 Minutes piece last night, so it was nice to see this one. This was one of those celebrity deaths that make you gasp out loud when you read the headline. He seemed like a really lovely man, not just an outstanding journalist -- and he was pretty good looking, too, wasn't he? ETA: I just googled Patricia Blanchet and found a Swarthmore College alumni bulletin indicating that she's my age (40). Apparently they'd only been married a couple of years (he was married for the first of three times before Blanchet was born). So sad.

Last night on the 60 Minutes tribute they mentioned that he had no children. Not that I'm a fan of quoting myself, but the tabloids this week have interviews with Ed's first wife Dianne. In fact, Ed does have a son (Edward Bradley III who's now 39) whom he refused to see most of his life. They reunited shortly before Ed died.

Oh there's a story there.
At least they got to reunite before he died.

He refused to see him? That just does not jive with everything else said about this man. There must be more to it.
