I'm actually surprised this thing is getting so much attention, since he's not famous outside of being Kramer. I think it was the breaking news on The Insider tonight, though I changed the channel as soon as I could because I just didn't want to relive it or hear what other celebs were saying. Not after the whole dealie with people making excuses for Mel Gibson.
Heh. I laughed for a few minutes over that one.
This gives me reason enough to to pay attention to anything else he does in the future, but I'm not about to boycott Seinfeld over this. The other 3 stars, who I thought carried the show and he was more secondary, did nothing to deserve that. It's not like it was his project or he carried the show. I've never cared one way or the other for Michael Richards the actor, so I'm not going to let it ruin one of my favorite shows of all time. He was always an aside for me and will remain that way. Nothing's taking away my George Costanza love! I just hope Jerry, Jason and Julia all say as little as possible about this. The press is going to be trying to get statements from them to see what they think about it.
I hope he doesn't bust out with some "I didn't mean it/didn't know what I was saying" excuse, because that's a load of crap. I think the only thing he can do is apologize and lay low for awhile. He's flown under the radar for years now, he'll probably be able to disappear once this cools down.
As far as comedians off stage personas, I thought I'd heard before that Dennis Miller was a real jerk. I recently met Paul Rodriguez and he was nice, easy to talk to and friendly--not intimidating at all. But he did have a bit of the star attitude going on along with that.
Although I must admit I'm going straight to hell because while reading this I totally imaged a pilot in a crashing plane yelling, "Oh, no! I have no control over the plane! We're gonna crash!! I haaaate blaaack peeeeooople..."
