Yes I thought he was excellent in Prisoners. I am glad I took the time to see that one in the theater

Treated for cancerSorry to hear it. He seems like one of the good ones. But apparently this type is rarely fatal, so good luck to him. Hope it doesn't come back.

That's a nothing. MrF calls them barnacles. Sometimes farmers lose a part of an ear when they ignore it for years, but not lethal by any means.

Yeah, basal cell carcinoma almost never spreads to other organs and grows very, very slowly. It really is no biggie - you get it cut off and basically you're done. My dad had one on his face removed last year - it's super-common for white folks over 60 (like my dad) to get it.
The only thing odd about Hugh's case is that he is a bit young for it, but if he spent a lot of time in the sun in his youth in Australia, that may explain it.

My uncle has had a few of those, he was a marathon runner in his younger days so he spent a lot of time in the sun.

I've had several of these skin cancers, started getting them in my 30's, it really is no big deal, the doctor just freezes (burns) them off. I mostly get them on my hands from driving, my windscreen is the only window not tinted. I had one on my lip and oh boy did it sting getting that one treated.

Basal Cell Skin Cancer is OK if it's only on your outer skin. But, if it's inside your lungs or other parts of your organs, it can be fatal. My father (my biological father died from lung cancer - and my "step"father who adopted me as a kid) is diagnosed with Basal Cell lung cancer stage 4 and he doesn't have a very long time left, unfortunately. But I'm glad that Hugh is alright and it's nothing too serious for him.
