There is something to reportDeborra-Lee and Hugh (but Deborra in particular) have worked tirelessly for years to foster change in Australia's ridiculous laws regarding overseas adoption that render it almost impossible to make it happen. The hoops through which people have to jump take years and result in some people being declared 'too old' by the time they get close to making it happen. If they ever get there. I salute them for finally getting the government to sit up and take notice. Overseas adoption is often the only option for Australians to adopt because our social welfare system means that very few healthy Australian-born children are surrendered for adoption. At-risk children are also kept in state care and the foster system rather than being adopted. The aim is for them to eventually go back to their families, but many if not most of them would be better off being adopted.

His marriage is still clearly a sham to cover up that he's gay. It's so obvious.

Is that an old picture? From the time they adopted Oscar? Who was (still is) an adorable little scamp.

I'm not sure he's gay either. Because he does Broadway? Has a wife who isn't a size 2? It's always been a head-scratcher for me.
ETA: He was wonderful in Prisoners.

His wife just sets people off doesn't she? Unbelievable, how hard is it to accept that this man loves his wife even though to many she doesn't seem to fit the glass slipper image many people have. I mean people, she isn't a size 2 and she is in her fifties so that means she couldn't possibly be a good wife and mother right? But people think that way, so glad that for his children's sake that Hugh doesn't. You can tell a lot about a man from looking at his family and you can tell this is a man that cares.

He pings my Gaydar, always has. Before I even knew anything about his wife.

He must have the gift of foresight, as he married her well before he hit it big and he was basically a nobody in the business.
Cate Blanchett more or less gets the same treatment, as her husband is definitely no looker either. Must be something in those Aussie waters...

I was being completely facetious and didn't express it well at all. In the old days of Fametracker, every time he did something, his sexuality always came up in speculation. It was tiresome and boorish and I can tell I'm getting older and crankier because it still sticks in my craw. Part of what will always rankle me is that he said that if he were gay, he wouldn't hide it and has always had a great sense of humor about the speculation. Yet it always seemed like his "reward" for being so gracious and cool about it was even more speculation and gossip.
He and his wife seem like lovely, kind people who remain firmly planted in the real world and keep Hollywood at arms length. Plus he's dreamy.
