It just makes me cringe to high heaven every time I hear about an actor who pings (because apparently they ALL do... ALL the time). Is Brad Pitt the only guy who hasn't had a zillion BI's about being closeted? Of course there are gay actors, but for some reason people want all male actors to be gay.

I actually think Deborra is gorgeous. She looks like she has started fussing a bit with her face, but I don't really see the two of them as being in different "leagues" or whatever.

Yeah, I know what you mean, wenton. People used to talk about him being gay like it was fact. And there was nothing to suggest that he was. It seems like some weird rule that anytime a guy plays a character who is gay, he will be followed with gay rumors the rest of his career. Maybe he is -- obviously I don't know him -- but he seems like a guy who loves his wife. If it weren't coming up so much, I wouldn't bother to consider otherwise.

What is even more infuriating is that the gay rumour always comes up in conjunction with Deborra. Because she is older and not some size 2 lingerie model, like the dime a dozen DiCaprio prefers to date, ergo the only reason and explanation as to why he's still with her: he must be gay!

And if it's not the gay thing, it's this "He could do so much better, as he can have the pick of the crop and date some hot model. Why stick with this old hag?"

I think she looks like Malin Akerman. In the pictures of them from early on, Hugh looks like a skinny ass kid, and she is stunning! They met when in the same play, I think, and I can see her as the sexy lead, and him as the 2nd walk on. She was definitely the bigger star/bigger catch at that time. Then they married, tried to have babies, miscarriages, all that life stuff, finally adopted two beautiful kids. They get older, she puts her career on hold to raise their kids, he beefs up and becomes Wolverine.

And after all that together, he is gay if he doesn't dump her and and kids and get some shiny new size two?

Deborra-Lee is a fantastic person, with an enormous heart and a commitment to do good in the world that she has consistently delivered on. She's also a damned good actress when she takes on a role from time to time.

Actors are routinely accused of being shallow and hung up on the superficial, including looks. Here we have a hunk of a man who is, to all intents and purposes, happy with his wife, family and life, but according to internet gossip, it must all be a sham. Even if he were gay (and I neither know nor care) he is clearly happy with the life he has built for himself.

So who exactly is shallow and hung up on the superficial here?

ETA: They met when Deborra-Lee had the title role in a TV series called Corelli (prison drama) and he came in as the new talent. He fell hard and pursued her while she initially kept him at arm's length.

How dare you be happy with your wife if you're rich, famous and hot! You have a God-given right to get as much strange as you can stand (or sit or lay or...), and if you don't exercise it, you are gay-diddley-gay-gay-gay!

I have terrible gaydar, so I would never be able to tell anything even if I wanted to.

But everything I've heard about Deborra-Lee indicates that she is a super-awesome lady. And from what I understand, she was a pretty established actress in Australia when she met Hugh. So, even if Hugh were beard-hunting, I kinda don't get why she would volunteer for the job. She didn't need him to boost her career, and she seemed good-looking/awesome enough to land a dude on her own.

Whatever their relationship may be (normal marriage or bearding situation) they seem genuinely happy, so it works for them and that's what matters.

Musical theater: because straight men aren't supposed to like it. The entire live theater industry has survived for more than a century solely on the efforts and patronage of cat ladies and gay men, don't ya know.

Good looking and well-groomed: because straight men are supposed to be slobs.

Monogamous: because men are supposed to throw it into any woman that walks by. If he's not banging extras on his movie sets, he must be gay.

Adoption: because straight men have fertile sperm. Only gay men adopt. Straight men who have infertile wives are supposed to dump their barren asses and find a fertile young hottie.

Older wife: because what straight man wants an older woman? If that chick's more than 6 months older, she'll steal your testicles and use them as cat toys. Or something. In any case, date women barely out of high school so everyone will know what a man you are.

So take note, straight guys everywhere. You have to be a fugly slob who hates music and joy. You must jump from one quickie relationship with a 21 year old swimsuit model to another. Treat older women like the wastes of time they are. Casually display anti-gay bigotry. Inseminate someone. Failure to do two or more of these things will make you gay. Hella gay.

While I don't know why Hugh Jackman has been the subject of gay rumors and I wouldn't doubt that opinions about his wife/marriage are a contributing factor, some men are dogged by gay rumors regardless of who they are in a relationship with. Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford took out a full page ad over his gay rumors that ended up being extended to her as a way to explain away their marriage. It does sometimes seem like far too many male celebrities are believed to be gay but it doesn't seem that strange to me, generally speaking. People in the business have actively sought to fool the public and this kind of thing has gone on for years. Suspecting everyone in Hollywood of some sort of charade or another seems like a sort of an unconscious resistance to their shenanigans.
