Fox News and MSNBC are reporting that he has died in a Los Angeles Hospital.

Whoa. I wasn't expecting that. Had he been sick?

Not a shock, I guess, given that he was 81 and had had major heart problems, including a transplant. I don't like all his work, but some of his movies are pretty close to brilliant, and he's really left his mark on movie-making.
RIP

This is another one that took my breath away. I didn't know he was sick.
It's on CNN as well.

My worst fears realized when he had a new thread at the top of the page.
Nooo. Nooooo!
FWIW, my friend said that he *was* pretty sick on the PHC set and PT Anderson did a ton of work on it (but he sounded perfectly healthy on the commentary). And she also has him on the list of people who must never die, so she's gonna be bummed out.
How weird and fitting that his last film was so much about mortality.

That's so sad. MASH is the best movie ever.

Maybe this belongs in the unpopular movie opinions thread, but I actually enjoyed Pret a Porter.
