Is Real Woman Have Curves worth checking out? It's a poignant look at a family making it in America. She plays a great character, very smart. Her mother is a shrew. I really wanted to smack her for a large part of the movie.

She asked her if America had anything to say to all the people who didn't want America to play Betty. America looked very confused and said "I didn't know there were people who didn't want me to play Betty" and Maria replied "Weren't there some network execs (I think that's who she said) who resisted having you cast?"
The entire interview was very awkward.

Okay, I'm going to give Ugly Betty another chance. I watched the first episode and I just didn't like it. Everything was so exaggerated and unbelievable, it got on my nerves. But after seeing how awesome America is, and remembering my love for RWHC, and considering I hear so many people raving about it, I have to give it another try. John-boy's mole, I think the trick is to just enjoy the over-the-top-ness -- don't try to fight it! My biggest hurdle was that I find Daniel sort of homely, which made it hard to buy him as a Sex God. But maybe he knows the Venus Butterfly... AuroraStar, I did hear Salma say in an interview that there was some opposition to casting America, but it didn't sound too serious. The same thing happened to Gillian Anderson; the Fox execs wanted a tall, slim, busty Scully. I think the viewers got lucky in both of these cases: the perfect woman in each role.

I'm not sure what I was expecting when I first saw it, but I just thought everything was too over the top. I might have been in the wrong state of mind. Now that I know, that's where its charm is, I can embrace it. I'm certainly not opposed to that kind of show, I just think it hit me wrong. Also, that horrible poncho she wore offended my eyes. I'll give it another shot, just because I love America!

I think Maria Menounos (not sure of last name spelling) is a twit and it's too bad that she was in the position to interview America so poorly. I don't recall seeing MM interview anyone else as they came off the stage after that, perhaps the hook came out and dragged her off stage.
I really enjoy the Ugly Betty show, but it took me a few episodes to get into it. Once they developed the characters it started working for me.

It's a bit too sappy for me, especially the scene in which Betty checks to see if her heart is pounding after she touches her boyfriend.
I am forced to watch this farce, because my sister loves this show.

Oh, me too. I thought she was perfect as Carmen. Actually, I thought Tibby and Bridget were perfectly cast as well, but I want to know what idiot decided to cast boring as hell Alexis Bledel as Lena. Anyhoo...
I absolutely adore America. She just seems like a very smart and very talented gal. And I like that she's been going to college while working - though I think she had to stop because of her UB schedule, but she's only one semester away from her degree (in something non-Hollywood, I don't remember exactly what, but some sort of International Business or Communication type thing) and she recently commented that she still owes her mother a degree, so it sounds like she will finish. And it sounds like her momma raised her right.
I adored Ugly Betty right from the start. I tuned in for the first episode and realized that I was just sitting there with a stupid grin on my face the whole time I was watching it, so it was pretty much love at first sight. You really have to love it for its broad, over the top, farcical style. And I really like the sense of dignity America brings to the role of Betty - that's actually a lovely quality she's given all the characters I've seen her play.

See Hollywood? It's totally possible to not starve, be blonde and still be gorgeous by a long shot.
