I don't understand the hatred for Julia Roberts. She's always been okay and that's it. For me, it’s her real life personality and behavior. She’s not a very good human.

I've never been a full-on hater, but there are periods when she annoys me a great deal. The Stepmom/My Best Friend's Wedding/Runaway Bride/Notting Hill era - when everybody seemed to stop caring that she's a bad actress and those movies are not good. That was one. Then she joined the Steven Soderbergh/George Clooney smug club AND won an Oscar. That was another.
I do love Pretty Woman/Dying Young/Sleeping with the Enemy, but I was 13 when those came out so part of it's nostalgia.
The rumors about her being nasty and unpleasant IRL are persistent, so I really can't defend her when people fault her for A Low Vera and other acts of beeyotchery.

It was the A Low Vera that turned me right off her. Mocking your married lover's wife because she won't hurry up with the divorce? Talk about trashy.

And she always manages to make everything about her, the prime example being when Denzel Washington won the Best Actor Oscar for Training Day and she presented it to him. She literally said “I love my life!” and instead of hanging back after giving him the award like most people do, she made sure she was visible and was hanging all over him before and after his acceptance speech.

I was a huge fan of hers when she first started out. Loved her in Mystic Pizza, Pretty Woman and Flatliners. She was charming on talk shows and if you watch her interviews now with David Letterman from back then, she is so different. She then became a tabloid staple with that whole business with Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, and Steven Spielberg publicly criticizing her after Hook so she disappeared for a long time. When she came back, she seemed harder, more calculating and arrogant. On some level, I respect her for doing what she needed to do to get her head together and figure out a way to stay in the Hollywood game for as long as she has but I do agree that the A Low Vera business was just nasty. I also hated the way she acted when she won her Oscar (calling the conductor 'Stick-Man').

I hated her for all of the above reasons which have been perfectly stated by fellow Greecies but also because she was so ridiculously overhyped at the time. It was seriously annoying. I've heard good things about Homecoming but she's a deal breaker for me. I've never found her attractive in any way, shape or form and now that she's decided to go the Frances McDormand route (I also hate her plain face too - I just need some glamour in my entertainment), I definitely don't want to look at her.

I don't understand the hatred for Julia Roberts. She's always been okay and that's it. I’d have to quote everyone who posted following this, but it’s not a random she-gets-in-my-nerves kind of thing. It’s the rudeness to underlings and servers, the arrogance, and the A Low Vera thing sealed it. You are a rich movie star having an affair with a married man and you use your fame to publicly taunt the soon to be ex-wife? I had enjoyed her movies and liked her as an actress, but her personal behavior ruined it.

A Low Vera turned me off her personality forever and ever. She showed her real self with that shirt. The way she handled that entire thing was distasteful. She gave an interview shortly after their wedding where she called Danny "a man among men" or something and I was like, "OMG, that cheater?" and said them getting together was "extremely complicated." Ya think? They have been together like 15 years now, but I also think she worked very hard on that marriage to save face. How would it have looked if they split up after 2 or 3 years? She also pulled back a lot from her career when they started a family, which is her choice and seems like something she wanted, but I think she's had to carefully navigate between her fame and his ego (she's not the first famous woman who's had to do this either). She annoys me, but her husband is skeevy and looks like an immature, insecure jerkface.
She gave good gossip, I will say that. Remember her surprise wedding to Lyle Lovett? No one even knew they were dating (pre Internet). That was over as quickly as it started, and another reason why I think she's worked really hard to maintain the marriage to Danny.

I just sputtered my coffe and said, “I completely forgot about Lyle Lovett!!” Mr. Rio asked if I was supposed to meet him somewhere. I mentioned the marriage. His eyes bugged out and he said, “No, I don’t think so.”

I had forgotten that too! Remember, she was barefoot in that wedding.
I wonder if Melania saw A Low Vera and thought, I too could send messages through my clothing, and ordered that I don't really care, do u jacket?
