I would just like to add a small clarification here. They were never married. I believe the entire fight is just about who gets the kids. Thank you for that! I didn't realize that. (Should read news more closely before I start spouting off!) ETA: Back to Shia.... I realize that this is a REALLY SPECIFICALLY NICHE publication, but I thought it was a beautifully written article and makes some really great observations about Shia and his treatment by a Catholic Bishop on a podcast vs. the erasing of FKA Twigs (a Black Catholic woman) and her dignity. So, I thought I would share it here. www.blackcatholicmessenger.com/barron-labeouf-interview/

I don't even know how to process this. I guess if the sexual assault claims are true, then he would fit in well with the Catholic Church leaders.

I actually groaned and said “what did he do know?” When I saw his name at the top.

When you get confirmed as an adult do you still try to find the most ridiculous saint name to strategically piss off your mom? Or is that strictly what we do as teenagers? I tried for Dymphna but was DENIED. Ended up with Gabriel when the bishop asked why I said "he's the bringer of news and God knows I'm real into gossip"

I'm not Catholic and I'm not up on my saints. But I work with a Dymphna. I've always thought it was an interesting name. Different, kind of cool, kind of pretty.

She's the patron saint of the mentally ill. We used to TROLL those saint books trying to find the oddest ones with the weirdest patron connections. Then you'd go home and declare to your mom "I have chosen my confirmation name" and she would look at you beaming with pride waiting for you announce Anne, Thomas, Anthony, Elizabeth or go with something real ethnic like Malachy or Giovanni or Diego and instead you'd smirk and say "St Thorlack" and she would get the vapors and immediately turn apoplectic
(we also have secret code language thats real dark ask any former Catholic school kid about "hatched matched and dispatched and what INRI stands for.. you'll 100% be offended by the second one)

I stopped just shy of my confirmation (my mom made the mistake of telling me I only had to go to catechism until grade 7, then moved us to a church that did confirmations every other year which would have pushed me to grade 8. You bet your ass I argued that technicality and wore my poor, already tired mother down.) I do regret not getting to choose an inappropriate saint name.

I'm Lutheran so both me and my kids did confirmation when we were teens, but we don't get to pick a cool (or inappropriate) saint name. Boo! However, batmom , your post reminded me what our pastor told us when we had a pre-confirmation parents meeting, that before he will confirm anyone he asks them individually if they want to be confirmed, and if they say "no" he won't do it - doesn't matter what the parents say. The whole point is you're supposed to be becoming an adult in the eyes of the church. So good for you!
