Meh. I'm not feeling the whole monochromatic look she has going in the ad. Hair color and skin tone should never match that closely. She does have lovely features, though. I think that's one of the best hair colours on her, actually. But I see what you're saying, I think it's the fault of the make up, especially the lipstick which is the exact shade of her hair. The worst she looked, IMO, was when she was rocking the platinum. She could pull it of when she was younger, but now it just washes her out.

That's what she said in an interview with a fashion magazine -- while digging into a big plate of bacon. And in the photos accompanying the article, she was wearing animal products galore, including a very large, very prominent leather belt. I was pretty disgusted that somebody who was not just a vegan, but a really, really obnoxious vegan (anybody remember when she invited Entertainment Tonight along on a protest at a restaurant because they served lobster and she wanted to liberate the lobsters?) suddenly abandoned her so-called principles completely. I thought she was a giant hypocrite. That's how I've always felt that she's like about everything. She jumps on these social cause bandwagons because they're trendy and make her feel cool, and I think she's too old for that and has been for a while. I got a quite similar impression of her whole involvement with those get-the-young-people-to-vote campaigns during the 2004 elections.

I got a quite similar impression of her whole involvement with those get-the-young-people-to-vote campaigns during the 2004 elections. I remember watching her on The Daily Show to promote that campaign, and she unfortunately came off sounding very foolish; she had her basic piece to say and really couldn't express much beyond that, even with Stewart prompting her; it had me squirming with embarrassment. With that said, I do think her heart's in the right place. There's something endearing to me about that kind of "hypocrite"--the bacon-loving "vegan"! What the hell, she comes & goes from this or that cause, but she sincerely loves dogs and seems relatively normal in an insane, me-first bsuiness. I'd be happy to order a BLT with her and take our puppies to the dog park together.

Yeah, she lost like 20 lbs, and it seems to have given her more fashion and body confidence. I didn't think she needed to lose it either, but she's commented quite frequently in the past that her non-Hollywood body made her feel bad. In the first Charlie's Angels, you can see that she keeps her body covered up, which just made me sad. On the upside, she says in this article (which is long, but also perfectly captures why I get the impression she's really fun and down to earth) that she lost the weight by exercise, which she hadn't done before and now does regularly. I also agree with SwanFlake that she's not brilliant, but her heart's in the right place. I think growing up without much parental guidance, without college (I think 2-4 extra years of being taught to think critically does a fair bit to improve your your judgement as well as your knowledge), and within the bizarre milieu of Hollywood, the vegan and political stuff are applaudable if a bit immature efforts to be a good person. (Whew. Now there's a run-on sentence for you.)

I kind of love that flakiness about her. It's one of the things that makes her the most appealingly "human" celebrity to me. Besides, most public figures would get all defensive and secretive if they stopped being vegan and instead she's all "Want some bacon?" to a reporter. It's like she doesn't hide anything-- the multiple marriages/relationships speak to that as well-- and I can't help but find that endearing.
Plus, she's not a stick figure and she has one of the nicest reps in Hollywood. Even the paparazzi guys love her; she learns their names and talks to them. I really want her to be happy. Plus, I love that she's best friends with her business partner and they're both like these hip, successful ladies who date cute younger guys. Ah, I love Drew.

Drew Barrymore is incredibly lucky that she was born to famous Hollywood parents. She's a crap actress and is damn fugly. She never struck me as being particulary intelligent either, which has pretty well been confirmed in this thread.

I swear I thought that was Paltrow in that picture. I would have never known it was Drew.

I developed a soft spot for her once I realized that the whole flower child thing was genuine and not just a put-on. Plus, she was pretty open about feeling self-concious about her body in the first Charlies' Angels because Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu were so svelte. It struck me as so human (by Hollywood standards). Even before I read that, I'd seen Charlie's Angels and noticed how her costumes were never as tight or revealing as the other two actresses.

Drew will also get extra points in my book for the way she turned her life around - she didn't just walk around with huge sense of entitlement, expecting that her name and past work should continue to open doors for her with minimal effort on her part - and worked her butt off to get to where she is.
Ol' Britney and Lindsay could stand to learn a lesson or two from Drew - and the fans who say "leave them alone! They're so young!" should know that Drew figured this crap out and righted her ship when she was only 18 or 19.

I HEART Drew. She's just a year older than me, and I've followed her career from the moment she came forward after being all strung out.
Good point, kostgard. I can also appreciate that she came out, was kind of wild with her roles at first (Poison Ivy, Mad Love--which SUCKED, by the way) and has now fit into that comfortable niche of silly romcoms. The thing is, I don't really like most of those movies, but I'm glad it works for her, and that she's successful.
