Has anyone read that Olivia Goldsmith book "Flavor of the Month?"
I always thought the serious NY actress character who underwent a complete surgical makeover to be accepted in Hollywood, was inspired by Julianne Moore.
Sorry for the awkward way of putting that, I hope you know what I mean. I realise that the character was based on a composite, but I couldn't shake the image of Julianne as the ugly duckling transformed. In the novel this character is constantly hungry and has to maintain very strict control over any food passing her lips. All without using any drugs to dampen down the appetite. Sounds like Hell to me!

Really? I was never under the impression that she had much work done, especially in comparison to some of the scary, over 40 wax figures in Hollywood. Also, despite her recent comments, her body never looked super-skinny to me either, then or now. But I've never read the book, so maybe you're right.

She may have had a nose job, but that's about it. She still looks a lot like her Franny/Sabrina days on ATWT, and that's been 20 years ago!

My one nitpic it that in "Laws of Attraction" her teeth were distractingly yellow. I've seen her in person at the Toronto film fest and she's tiny. Not overweight or even curvy. Tiny.

I have to admit, when I read what she said, I felt relieved because, often that's my diet: granola bars, cereal, yogurt. I don't starve myself but I do eat that in part because I don't want to gain weight.
Disclosure: I have food/body issues. I know I do. In high school I weighed about 40 pounds more and was miserable, so I am very weird about my weight. I'm an american size four now. Most people think I'm fairly thin. It is remarkably sad that Moore (who is probably my size) is on the larger end of the acceptable spectrum for women.
I disagree that she could gain 10 pounds and still play the same roles. She could do more character work, but I think a 10 pound gain would get her tarred and feathered by the media as "letting herself go."
Obviously beauty ideals have changed in the last several decades (See: Monroe, Marilyn), but in the last 15 years the whole scary-skinny thing has really accelerated. I think 15 years ago body types like Nicole Richie (pre-pregnancy) and Angelina Jolie (in the past year) would not have the status it does now. Although most of us decry that body type as dangerously thin, on some level in the world of the rich and famous, being very, very thin is still an ideal. I'm not sure why that is other than the fact that it's one way for the elite to distinguish themselves from the unwashed masses.

I wonder if it's those sample sizes that wind up creating insecurity on the part of actresses (besides executives putting pressure on them to be thin as well). Aren't those sample sizes like double 00 or something? Perhaps the actresses wind up with distorted images when a stylist brings those samples to them and they can't fit into them.
I could see how women might want to emulate Angelina Jolie because she at least has a beautiful face to make it seem like the thinness might be attractive. Her face doesn't call attention to anything else looking "off" or not so great. Since she always looks good, I can see how people would fall for the idea of wanting to look like her body shape wise. But I can't fathom anyone wanting to look like Nicole Richie. She's freaking looking with her thinness and she winds up looking malnourished, alien-like and rather....(I apologize) ugly.

It's true, they are freakish looking. But I think it's sort of an acquired taste, so to speak. And--at least in my experience--I think if you're in that world, you become used to it. Yes, if you have a normal, healthy body image, they do look freakish. But I think you get used to it in degrees.

Okay, seriously, how does she looks so line-less? Don't tell me that it's just staying out of the sun, because I'm sorry, she's in her late 40s and she should have some expression lines of some sort on her forehead. She does have light crow's feet, but the rest is totally line-less. I'm thinking she has peels, botox, and light fillers? I'm 27 and have the same exact coloring, so I'm desperate to know her secret, for the coming decades.

Her skin is very shiny and taut there.
