Here's hoping you have time to write more soon, cracker18. I found myself uncomfortably close (locationally) to the Scieno center in PDX this past week. They even foisted some "literature" in my hands and I felt forced to take it. Maybe I need to take some time off at Operation Clambake...

I promise to update tomorrow; had a busy weekend and work was nuts today (for NON Scientology reasons, but still nuts.) Just didn't want y'all to think I had been "disappeared" or anything...

I'm back. So the first thing about this condo building is that even if your background, credit, rental history, and income verification all check out, your residency can still be denied by the Board of Directors. This is not unusual per se. The unusual part about Pierce is that they have been known to not approve, hypothetically let's say, a retired couple in their early 60s who presented perfect personal references AND bank statements showing MILLIONS in investments and dividends on a monthly basis. The Board's reason for this denial was something along the lines of "we just don't feel they would be a good fit here." Hypothetically, my boss told them "You know, I am starting to think that we have a case of religious discrimination going on here...wow! You know that's illegal, right? I mean... you want to be recognized as a church, well you can't have it both ways yanno." She's gutsy like that. The retired couple was suddenly approved the next day! But by that time they had been made to feel so uncomfortable and confused that they changed their minds about the condo anyway. And the search continued. The latest tenants, the ones I processed and talked to almost every day for weeks, and ran their background and all that, they were different. He is, hypothetically, self employed, in his late 40s. Formerly of Los Angeles, then Chicago. I never spoke to his wife though I heard she's charming. She is from Russia. We couldn't run her background or credit b/c, well...you have to have a SSN and a valid driver's license to do so. Just saying. (Funny how she wasn't separated from her children but instead took them to live in paradise, right? But that's another thread.) It was made clear from day one that their Board Approval was a technicality. They had come to Clearwater for "a function." Had been here before, yes. Staying a few weeks at the "Retreat." The Retreat and the area surrounding it are referred to here Which goes back to why the pastor of Calvary works against the Scienos, why he and Mike Rinder are buds, etc., as mentioned in my first post. Ugh. Guy is super nice. Talkative, gregarious, unassuming. Being in a customer service based field it was my job to make him happy. I played on the Chicago connection, talked about Obama, Hyde Park, the ridiculous taxes, the blizzards, and so on. All the while I just wanted to scream. I think this guy is fairly connected, probably was in town for a Miscavige appearance, and just... (shiver). They moved in 6/15 and thank God were aren't an actual property management company. I won't have to talk to him again until 90 days before his lease is up. To see if they are renewing. Or if maybe they have decided to buy! Then they will REALLY be our clients. Lord help us. A week ago Facebook suggested this dude as my friend. Actually - it's weirder than that: My BF & I have a Facebook page for our cat (don't judge lol) and it offered this guy as someone my cat might know. How helpful. How do you make THAT connection?! Oh. My. God. Big brother is really watching.

Oh. My. God. Big brother is really watching. He searched your profile, looked at it, and clicked around..... You need to do things like remove any identifiable pictures of yourself and boyfriend. Change your privacy settings so they're on lockdown, and when he shows up as someone you might know.. hit remove.

I just started listening to a podcast called Disgraceland, starting at episode 1, as I do with all new podcasts. Episode 3 teased the next one, which was about Beck, and wouldn't you know it but it's not there. Those scienos scrub everything.

If you're on facebook, everything is connected no matter what. If facebook knows your email address and/or phone number, it knows everything. That's how it knows your friends and friends of friends. Scienos aren't on the same plane as facebook so I don't think this guy was being more nefarious than normal. It's facebook putting two and two together. Yes it's that creepy.
ETA: And yes, I just said Facebook is creepier than Scientology... The knowledge they have and sell, I stand by that. I guess the good news is that FB doesn't have tax exempt status.

Yeah it's REALLY weird, Facebook is. I remember having a conversation about an relatively obscure kitchen product over TEXT with a friend. Within an hour, the next time I opened my news feed, I had a dozen ads about said product.
I honestly chuckle when I hear people complain about facial recognition, cameras in public, etc. They already KNOW everything. Trust me, we are all being tracked. Because, $$$$$.

Whenever someone tells me I shouldn't fill out this form or that b/c it gives the government too much information about me, I explain that I use Facebook, Google, and Amazon. At this point, there's a computer algorithm that knows what I'm going to do before I do.
