There was a rumor that Fassbender liked women who weren't white, but in the end he married a white woman; I can see people being a bit upset about that, as it seems that IRL so many black male celebrities marry white women and that doesn't happen enough the other way around. Bingo. I'm unfortunately well acquainted with the Fassbender haters. Until Alicia, he dated women of color almost exclusively. He even stated outright that it was his preference. That earned him a lot of fans who are women of color and they conducted their fandom on tumblr ("Brown Girls Love Fassy") and Lipstick Alley. Those same fans turned against him when he started dating a white woman and it became obvious that the relationship was serious. Sad, but true. That's when they invented the narrative that the whole relationship is just PR organized by Harvey Weinstein, so all criticism emanates from that narrative. Lipstick Alley, which used to be the center of Fassbender worship now has "Fassbender Dragging" threads.

Well, I can hardly blame them; many are black women and I hate to say it but it's thrown in our faces all the time that white women are more desirable. I mean look at that shit movie, "The Mountain Between Us." I think it might have tanked, but I can tell you that a lot of black women I know were like, "I don't need to pay to see a black man boo-ed up with a white chick, I see that shit every day." And I do see that stuff every day. But I don't get the Cumber-crazies.

I don't think Fassbender fell in love Alicia Vikander in order to throw anything in anyone's face, and he does not owe it to his fans to marry a woman of color just because that's who they want him with.

You're right Ginger. But here's the thing and then I'll shut up. I don't know if you are a black woman or not, but historically, black women, heck, black people have been used as stepping stones. In most cases the men will marry a black woman and then leave her for a non black or mixed woman, and I, as are a lot of black women, are sick of that shit.

I don't think Fassbender's history points to that though. He's dated women of all races. He's dated black women, black/white biracial women, Asian biracial women, and blonde white women. He didn't hide those relationships, nor did he use them for gain. That's just who he dated. He wound up at 37-40 ready to slow down his career and settle down and the woman he was with happens to be white. Regardless, I think under any circumstances, saying that somebody deserves hate/anger because of the race of the person they choose to marry doesn't hold up. And I also disagree that he deserves crazytown fan backlash and Cumberbatch doesn't. Neither of them is guilty of anything. All they did was get married.

I don’t believe anyone thinks Fassy owes it to anyone to marry a person of color. I’d imagine the irritation is coming from a place of hurt and disdain. Probably because Fassy is just latest in a long line of both black and white who will do everything with a black woman except marry them. Or black women are all they date until they reach a certain level of fame or financial status and then as Kanye so eloquently put it “leave yo ass for a white girl”. That being said, the only two black women I’ve known about him dating were Zoe Kravitz and Nicole Beharie; and both of them were too good for him in my opinion. Hell I like him woh his wife but she could have probably done better. Instead of snickering and mocking the women on LSA, try to take a look from their point of view. And remember that white women go nuts over far less: Cumberbatch, Pattinson, Prince Harry, and the list goes on and on

Fassbender's other serious relationships were with Maiko Spencer (Sam Neil's stepdaughter) who is half Japanese and half white, Madalina Ghenea (Gerard Butler's ex) who is white Romanian, and Leasi Andrews, who is Asian. There's no pattern to him dating one type of woman at a certain level of fame and then leaving that behind for another type of woman.
I can sympathize when there's disdain for someone like Jesse Williams leaving his black wife for a white woman as soon as he gets some fame and attention. I recognize the pattern, I just don't see it here.
But I'm not going to have sympathy for stans going on a crazy hate campaign to punish an actor for getting married. I'll continue making fun of the Cumberbitches, the Twihards, the Harry-hards (or whatever they are called) and the Fassholes.

I don't think the argument is that Fassbender deserves crazy hate or that he went out of his way to reject or offend black women. I think the argument is that this particular crazy hate phenomenon, unlike the Cumberbatch/Hiddleston/Supernatural/etc. stuff, is at least partially fueled by a shitty phenomenon that actually does exist in reality. It doesn't mean it's appropriate to channel that at Fassbender and I don't think anyone's saying that it is.

No one wants to look at it from a black woman's point of view...ever it seems. All I'm hearing is "poor Fassy." But here's my thing. I think complaining on LSA is silly. IMO, if you really want to be serious, stop seeing his films. If he had a lot of black female support, then withdraw that support. Treat him like the company, Shea Moisture; a company that catered to black women and then decided to "broaden their appeal" which meant "fuck black women." So that means, stop supporting the company. Or black women are all they date until they reach a certain level of fame or financial status and then as Kanye so eloquently put it “leave yo ass for a white girl”. Very, very true. The phenomenon is for a white man to date women of "all races" until he gets fame and money and them BOOM, married a white woman. Surprise, surprise, NOT.
