I keep mixing her up with Brie Larson. Eh, I like Brie Larson, she has a personality.

The most interesting thing about Alicia Vikander's "look" is the fact that many people I've seen online will spark debates on what her supposed "race" is. Which is weird because race is an ever changing social construct and outside of the English speaking world people are more likely to identify by their nationality and or ethnic background and don't see "race" the same way Anglophone countries do. That's true. I thought she was black or at least half black when I first saw her, but didn't know who she was or where she was from.

I wonder where her career will go now? She and Fassbender have a string of flops and her upcoming projects don't look promising. I thought I was going to open up this thread and find that she had some big new project, LOL. Fassbender has virtually become a full-time amateur racecar driver and she seems to be off doing obscure European movies that will never be on my radar. Maybe they are just enjoying life, but career-wise she's the embodiment of the Best Supporting Actress curse. Yeah, Fassbender has basically retired, hasn't he? He's a great actor, but if he can take or leave the whole thing, that's just how it is... As for Vikander: I've always had the impression that she's not really properly committed to the fame machine. She's presumably done everything her team told her to do to "make her happen".But the moment she was the next big thing for five minutes, it seemed as if she wasn't ready to really push for it. Yeah, she did Lara Croft. But she didn't really do a PR onslaught. She's not walking all the red carpets, she's super reserved and boring in interviews. She also doesn't do them often. So it's not like she ever told anyone, "no thanks, I don't want to be a big star", but it never seems as if she's driven enough for that kind of thing. And she's not charismatic enough or such a stellar actress that that alone would be enough. I'd guess Fassbender's attitude to the business reinforces her own ambivalence about it all as well.

I think they moved to Portugal, not exactly a center of the entertainment industry. I think they're both over it. He looked so sloppy during the XMen promo tour, like he didn't care and wasn't even trying.
I'm fascinated by people who have achieved a certain level of fame and then just walk away, especially when you see so many people who are just absolutely ruined by Hollywood.

I'm curious how much money he's made to check out of Hollywood. I'm not watching his pockets or anything, but the biggest movies he's made was the X-Men series, but he wasn't the top lead. I'm not sure what his asking price was/is, but it can't be in the $10 million/per picture level. He's still more of an indie actor than a mainstream actor. He doesn't have any major awards, but a few nominations. I guess he's made enough money over the past decade to retire, but it's interesting that he's apparently made enough to retire. Good for him/her/them I guess.

It's probably a situation where they both made/make enough money to live comfortably? As long as they don't get too extravagant lifestyle wise and don't have three mansions, five castles and twenty cars, perhaps it works out for them.
I'd also imagine that he might keep on taking acting gigs if something interests him or if he needs to earn some money to keep financing car racing/whatever. You can't maintain a big Hollywood career like that, but I'd think he has enough of a reputation as a solid actor that getting cast in supporting roles, TV, indie movies etc. should stay possible.

For many years after becoming a successful movie actor, he lived in a studio apartment in Hackney, wore the same clothes all the time, and used an old flip phone because he said he doesn't believe in replacing things unless they are broken. I don't think he's prone to spending much and Portugal is a much cheaper place to live than London.
But I also think he's made a good amount of money - he's a man. I'm always shocked at how many millions are commanded by male actors whom I would consider obscure. That movie he did with Vikander - he probably made a couple of million and she probably made a couple hundred thousand. The wage gap is real.
