I haven't seen any of this type of discussion on LSA. What's on LSA is how Fassbender and Vikander have a fake PR relationship orchestrated the talentless, ambitious bitch Vikander, who slept her way to the top via Harvey Weinstein and is now using Fassbender for endless paparazzi-based publicity. As is usual with this type of stanning, they lash out at Fassbender only for allowing himself to be the puppet of his evil woman and his evil (but incompetent) female publicist but are just waiting for him to restore their fantasies so they can forgive him.
The LSA-based Fassbender hatred has led to blind items being submitted all over the internet about Vikander being a drug addict and a mental case. We can sympathize with Gretchen Mol for being the victim of vicious blind items, but it's ok here? Fassbender has justified it by marrying a white woman?
I think what's going on is indefensible, and I'm baffled by the idea that hatred towards someone is justified because of the race of the person they married.
And it IS being said here that hatred of him is justified. "I can hardly blame them". And now it's being recommended that his work be boycotted because of who he married?

I had the impression that Nicole Beharie dumped him, so I don't get why he should get any flack about who he dated or married. Fassbender's "type" was usually co-star.
I'm happy for the newlyweds, and I hope they can make it work.

The women posting on LSA have no power. They’re venting, they aren’t responsible for blinds, etc. They don’t have that kind of power. And as someone who wishes she could get paid to follow celebrity gossip. Michael Fassbender isn’t that famous; a blip on most people’s radar. So no, a few nutty posters on LSA are not driving blinds about him or making anyone believe that he’s in some sort of arrangement. Leave that to Lainey.
And no one here is saying anyone deserves any particular type of vitriol. But what they do isn’t that much different than what happens on any number of celeb gossip sites. Er body has their faves, hang-ups, and every body has those celebs that make their blood boil.

But Blind Gossip and CDAN both accept anonymous blind item submissions and I've seen several that are clearly the work of the stans because they contain inside jokes that only make sense to them. The blind items then get reposted to LSA and Tumblr and are used as proof when they go around commenting on gossip sites, "I read that she's got a serious drug problem. I hope that's not true." It is possible to create an echo chamber of falsehoods on the internet. And whether it's something as off-the-wall psycho as what the Cumberbitches write about Sophie Hunter, or whether it's more straightforwardly bitter and misogynistic like the stuff about Vikander, it still isn't right.

I actually think the conspiracy theories circling Cumberbatch and his wife and Fassbender/Vikander are remarkably similar. That's also how you recognize them as conspiracy theories: They're recycling the same misogynistic narrative. It's always the woman who's a drug addicted ebil prostitute ruining the life of poor, misguided woobies who are somehow incapable of making their own decisions. Oh, and it's all a grand scheme by Hollywood forces or something. And yeah, the crazies would probably "forgive" the actors for their "betrayal" if they just did what the crazies wanted (read: fans could tell themselves that they control these people, know these people and they wouldn't have to acknowledge that they're total strangers).
That this is playing out with Cumberbatch and Fassbender makes it extra hilarious IMO. Cumberbatch is ambitious as hell, has always been. Depicting him as some sort of deer caught in the headlights is absurd. Fassbender has eclectic, risky taste in his roles (which sometimes backfires on him), he's not super press friendly and he just took a whole year off from work. I don't know in what kind of parallel universe this is something his agents, his managers etc. would want him to do. It's not exactly maximizing his earning potential.
And yeah, the echo chamber of the internet means that all sorts of BS can be circulated without ever being fact-checked. And that this sort of delusion is bleeding out into various gossip outlets (again, because they just throw everything at the wall) is bad enough. The intensity of hatred by the extremists for both Cumberbatch and Fassbender/Vikander coupled with the total dissasociation from reality that goes along with it...yeah, it's troubling.

What bugs me about this comment is, it's very close to invalidating feelings of black women, who are the most unprotected group of women in this country. It's along the lines of why should I support someone who isn't supporting black women? Maybe that's not right to think that way, but why isn't it right? Why do black women have to support everybody, when no one is supporting us? That's my issue with your comment. That we black women can't get upset because a man did, what so many famous men do, date black and marry white. Maybe it's not right, but people have a right to their opinions and feelings.

I do understand your point. I don't think he deserves anyone's support. If people liked him before because of his dating life and now are turned off and don't like him anymore, that's as good a reason as any. Any sort of fan liking for a celebrity is somewhat based on fantasy and how they make you feel. If Fassbender lost some fans, so be it. And if his fandom actually owned up to that, it would probably be a lot better than what's going on. I do object to the active hate campaign that they continue to wage against him (but mostly his wife) on the internet that is based around misogynstic fantasies and lies. I used to check in to various places on the internet once in a while to see what Fassbender was up to, but there's no place that's safe anymore. His stans act like they need to spread their gospel about his PR relationship to every corner of the internet. It's particularly disturbing not to be able to read anything about Alicia Vikander without a lot of really misogynistic trashing of her going on in the comments, which she certainly does not deserve just because she dated/married somebody. People object to the Twihards and the Cumberbitches and what they do, and rightfully so. The same things are being done to Fassbender/Vikander and I don't think the two of them belong in a separate category of people who deserve it.

I know she's part Finnish, but are they known for having darker skin than Swedes (or at least an ability to tan and not burn)? I think her skin is lovely but I always thought she might be half-something-not-Scandinavian. I know this is over a year late but Alicia's ethnicity is entirely European. She just fake bakes like many other European Americans, who also mainly of British Isles/Germanic ancestry. I've met many from that area, they're pale as hell but it seems like a reverse Asia situation, where while many in Asia favor lighter skin and skin whitening, those Europeans/Euro Americans seem to prefer to burn their skin until it looks super brown. One quick google of her younger or looking at paler pictures of her you see she's naturally pale as hell.

No conversation about Vikander should conclude without mention of how very, very plain she is, and how she has the least-memorable face since Siena Miller. Every Tomb Raider preview had me like, ‘Her? Really?’ a la Arrested Development.

I think with Vikander you can sorta see how the Hollywood machine works and it's interesting to watch. There was this push some years ago to turn her into the newest It-Girl, but it didn't pan out. She's a fine actress and obviously willing to play the game so she can advance her movie career.
But that's not the same as being a celebrity, or being A-list. And yeah, she takes the endorsements and walks the red carpets and does the photo shoots her team presumably arranges for her. But it's often observed that she's shy and closed off and kinda boring in interviews. She also obviously doesn't have enough interest in clothes to turn herself into a fashion icon and/or red carpet highlight. She's also rather low-key when she's not promoting movies.
IMO she isn't charismatic enough to attain the kind of fame Jennifer Lawrence has, for example. But IMO she also isn't trying as hard as she could, particularly since there was a moment where the media, industry etc. wanted to make her happen. But she was kinda half-hearted about it all and didn't grab that moment, and now it's passed. It might be just a case of thinking you want a certain status, then seeing what that actually entails and discovering that you're actually kinda ambivalent and uncomfortable about it.
