I think a movie about the Colonel would be really interesting! I have faint memories of Elvis dying. Do you all remember when the USPS had people vote on the Young Elvis stamp or the Old Elvis stamp? Like anyone was going to vote for Old Elvis. Although now that I am almost 10 years older than Old Elvis, I may have to rethink that nickname. I was cleaning on old bin recently and found the young Elvis stamp I bought! I’m not sure why I did though. I should give it to my mom. She and I loved watching his movies that they’d play all day on Saturdays.

I remember hearing that Elvis had died--it was a week or two before Christmas, and my high school Madrigal group had been busy that afternoon and evening, singing at various holiday events and parties. I invited several of my fellow singers to come over to our house afterwards to watch TV, but when we walked in, my dad greeted us at the door with the news. Honestly, it sounded so impossible that we weren't quite sure whether to believe Daddy or not, but then we saw live coverage from Graceland, where the masses were gathering, and everyone started calling their parents to tell them where they were, and that we were watching the Elvis coverage together. My dad said later that he'd never seen that group so quiet for so long. We were all in shock. He had just played Austin in what was his last tour, and friends who attended said it was heartbreaking to see how out of shape and somewhat confused he seemed to be as he wandered the stage and tried to remember his lyrics. So, so sad.

Ooh, memory unlocked. I remember the Elvis stamp! I had the “First Day of Issue” postmark, which was, appropriately, from Graceland. I bet still have that envelope somewhere.

I remember hearing that Elvis had died--it was a week or two before Christmas, Elvis died in August 1977, so you must be conflating this with another death. John Lennon, maybe? He was killed in December 1980.

I remember being in our kitchen in Montana, when the radio announced Elvis had died. I don’t know if I would have remembered it so clearly if I had been on my own. But my mom was with me and she was so visibly shaken by the news, and that is what sticks with me.

We were on vacation in the US, when he died, and we had randomly gone to see Star Wars, so I associate the 2 events together. As an 11-year-old, I was shocked by Elvis’ death and also shocked in a good way at how great Star Wars was.

I was 11 and can remember watching the evening news and seeing the building hysteria at Graceland. And a while after the death, when Elvis' doctor, George Nichopoulos, was in hot water for prescribing aaaaaalllll those uppers and downers and everything else. We were visiting family about an hour from our home and had the local radio station (that would be KPCR, Cowpasture Radio) on in the car. The announcer, clearly out of his depth having to read a "furrin'" name, took four or five stabs at pronouncing Nichopoulos and, frustrated, gave up, never having managed it. Reduced us all to hysterics. I still get the giggles thinking about it all these years later.

It's hard to think of Elvis being old. He was only just middle-aged when he died.

I remember telling my mom. She had a huge poster of Elvis above her bed. My dad joked their we're three people in their bedroom.😂
My stepfather was from Memphis and his best friend did the autopsy on Elvis.
I am a huge Elvis fan. So many of his songs are on my playlist but I thought the movie was just okay. Too much Tom Parker. It did make me sad to see how much control he had over Elvis and while he put Elvis on the map who knows how his life would have turned out if he had dropped Tom when he wanted to.

I remember we were all sitting around the tv. My brother who was very into heavy metal, with the lack of empathy of a 14 year old boy, was celebrating while my mom was just super sad and reprimanded him. She said something about how he was supposed to have a show at a dive bar in our nowhere podunk town that summer which shows how far he had fallen.
