If I am not mistaken didn't Mark date China Chow & Traci Bingham? Not that it makes what he did any better. I remember reading about these incidents years ago .

ETA- I hate when people justify that it's somehow okay to be racist coz your poor. Poor and ignorance are two seperate things . I heard that same excuse being made for Eminem and didn't buy it.

Well, I had no opinion on him before, and the opinion I have now isn't repeatable. He left someone disfigured for the serious crime of existing.

It's doesn't surprise me that he still has a career after what he did. Even played in "The Corruptor" with a predominantly Asian cast.

That doesn't mean anything one way or the other. People can be racist and yet socialize/date/marry inter-racially. That double standard is more common than most people think.

On the otherhand to be really cynical about it, I'm sure he knew this was an issue and he needed the PR of being seen to befriend and date across race to protect from allegations of racism from people who read this about his past. I personally don't think it was all that calculated. But some could see it that way.

So he made a racist comment about his eyes and proceeded to gouge his eye out leaving the man disfigured and half-blind? Yeah he really can't have a heinously sadistic personality.

Oh and I watched the Actor's Studio link and it made me think he had no remorse at all for it - besides that he got caught. And the part where he goes "I used to get up to a lot. When I was sober I'd get away with it, but when I was high I'd get busted.". So I guess his real regret was that he was high that night so he got busted for it that time.

I know he was only 16 but I don't know many 16 year olds who set out to gouge a man's eye out and take pleasure in it. That is seriously the work of a twisted type of mind. Frightening.

As for him turning over a new leaf...well I'm sure now he's famous and has something to lose he wouldn't exactly return to running up and down the streets of Boston gouging eyes out.... If he hadn't broken through in show business and become a success I wonder what he'd be doing?

He nearly ran me over about 13 years ago; he was driving with some skanky looking chick, I had the light and he came a little toclose to me. But he smiled and said, "sorry baby." I think he was wasted though.

As you can see I stated that it wouldn't make what he did any right. Especially using the "I was poor excuse". I'm also well aware of that race double standard your referring to. Either way what he did was wrong. It angers me he became such a big film star, and some make all these excuses for him because he was young and poor. He was involved with Traci ions ago before he was A-B list in his Marky Mark days. And got involved with China around the time of their film together. That might be a little suspect but she broke it off supposedly.

The article gives a different account of the eye gouging than he admits to in his interview.

He makes it sound like an accident. Like sure he was about to attack him from behind with a bar but accidently got him in the eye and it just fell out. He doesn't mention targeting an Asian man. He doesn't mention using a racial slur and making a racial remark about his eyes before the gouging commenced. He doesn't mention that the previous guy he had beaten up with his bar right before him was Asian too.
