While we're on this topic, may I please condemn in strongest terms the inability of the media to announce a celebrity birth without saying that the celebrity "welcomed" a child? From The Sun:
Clearly he very much did NOT welcome a daughter, either figuratively or literally. Why can't they just say his girlfriend gave birth? I don't know why this euphemism had to be invented in the first place.

Additionally, in this case, his daughter is definitely going to suffer from the knowledge that her father chose to parent his other children, but not her. TLDR: Wilson is a terrible person. [Edited out a personal story I've since changed my mind about having on a public message board.] As for the whole "maybe Owen just doesn't want to be a dad" argument, I'd have far more sympathy if this wasn't his third child. I'm no Owen Wilson expert but it's my understanding that his other two kids also resulted from casual, relatively brief relationships. This seems to be a pattern with him. He knows where babies come from. He knows he's fertile. He has no excuse. Yeah, I'm super judgy about this. His Johnny Appleseed routine is super gross. |

It's sad that he hasn't seen his daughter and I do admit to judging him for that. Could be that his relationship with the mother was not healthy and he just can't deal with any type of a co-parenting situation. I read that they were on again off again dating for five years.

Yeah, I'm super judgy about this. His Johnny Appleseed routine is super gross. This just made me laugh. I don’t have much of an opinion. I tend to skew towards the idea that an uninvolved parent who only provides financial support is better than an involved shitty parent, but obviously this cannot be laboratory tested. The gender flip is also an interesting topic of discussion, like in the case of Cristiano Ronaldo paying off his baby’s mother, or any of the multiple threads on the Am I the Asshole? subreddit about women who have surrendered custody of their children. |

The thing that stands out to me is he had a years long relationship with this woman. She wasn't some one night stand he knocked up during a film shoot in Peoria. Casual or not, they were together a long time and then he just ghosted when she got pregnant.

It's pretty shitty to not acknowledge a child. No matter who you are. But, it's probably less confusing for the kid in the long run. Having someone who doesn't want to be there coming in and out at his whim. At least the constant absence is the norm, and she won't have expectations or false hope that he'll learn to love her.

I just skimmed the article - is there no father figure in this baby's life? Does the mom have a partner/boyfriend-type? Just because it's not Owen doesn't mean she's going to grow up without any kind of father figure. Owen is going to reap what he sows. One day he might feel very differently about having a relationship with this child. Aging and a good look at mortality can have an impact. I hope she tells him to f**k right off. I really hope this girl will have decent male role models in her life. If not a stepdad then maybe a grandfather, say? |

I want to know how Wilson managed to evade widespread scrutiny of even knowledge of his suicide attempt a few years ago. He was hospitalized three or four years ago. I can't imagine another celebrity not being questioned about that.

Was there another attempt besides the one in 2007 when he was with Kate Hudson? I don't know that he's evading scrutiny about it, more like keeping a difficult time in his life private, which is his prerogative. I expect he does not want to talk about that in interviews.
