Because his work can make me really laugh (Zoolander) and really cry (Tennenbaums), it's not hard to rein in my immediate, "poor, poor, millionaire, superstar celebrity" reaction. This is sad.

Yeah, he was kicked out of his first high school for cheating. I'm kind of speculating that Owen's got a self-discipline problem, and maybe up until now has perhaps been smart/charming/lucky enough to avoid the worst of the consequences for it. Add Hollywood and drugs to that type of personality and it's kind of sadly inevitable that an addiction might eventually run away with him.

Don't mean to sound callous or like I'm going the "he had it coming" route, that's just my speculation. I do feel awful for him and his family.

Weird. My first thought was that this was Kate Hudson-induced. Whatever it was, I hope he gets better.

I like him in most of the movies he's in, but it's obvious he's a player. I really hope this wasn't brought on by the Hudson vagina. He's better than that.

If he is addicted to heroin maybe he thought that suicide was his only way to escape the addiction. I like him but I really hate his voice. He is so nasal and whiney.

So, according to Perez, Owen just released this statement:

“I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time,” the actor said in a statement released through his publicist on Monday.

I'm waiting to see this statement pop up on a reliable website, but it looks like the suicide thing is true.

That's a shame. He's not my cup of tea, but he seems like a nice guy and I've enjoyed a few of his movies. I hope he's able to find some peace.

Considering my experiences with comics, this is unfortunately no surprise. A lot of those funny, charming guys are incredibly dark, twisted, hypercritical, and self-loathing at their core. For every Ben Stiller or Will Ferrell there's a Letterman or Jim Carrey or poor Rich Jeni and Drake Sather (RIP). Hope Owen gets the help he needs. For my money there are few more charming and likable screen personas out there than his.
