I find this news very sad, and hope that it had nothing to do with Kate, because, yuck.

So, according to Perez, Owen just released this statement: I'm waiting to see this statement pop up on a reliable website, but it looks like the suicide thing is true. It's on People's site now, too. Definitely sounds like a suicide attempt.

It's really sad. He seems like a nice guy and is definitely talented. I hope he gets help and gets better.
I really don't think this had to do with Kate Hudson. They only dated briefly and broke up months ago. I suspect he's had deep issues with drugs/depression for awhile now, and those problems might have contributed to his breakup with her.

That's terrible. He never struck me as the self-loathing type. I don't know anything about what he's like IRL, but all I know is that I like his movies. I loved him in The Royal Tenenbaums.

It kind of makes you wonder how much the lovable but self-destructive Eli Cash was based on Owen himself.
I've found that this quote is very useful in daily life:

Didn't Sheryl Crow write "My Favorite Mistake" about him? I think they were quite an item for a while (pre-Lance Armstrong).

I remember that. He treated her like crap, right? I remember Ted at E! (back before he was useless) had a sighting of him leaving Crow at a bar to be with Gina Gershon.

Yeah, I thought about the addictive character in The Royal Tenenbaums, too. And now that I think about it, Luke Wilson's character began the movie Bottle Rocket "escaping" from a mental hospital.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I'm not really a fan, but I wish him well.

I'm confused by the Kate Hudson references. Are people implying that this is a result of their breakup or something Kate did/said?
I don't mean to take this thread in another direction, but I would imagine whatever he was dealing with was going on well before Kate came into the picture, and if she was even aware of any of his issues, she likely couldn't have stopped it.
I'm sorry, I lost a boyfriend to suicide, and there was a lot of finger-pointing to the girlfriend. It took me years to deal with that.
