Montreal is damn nice in the summer, though. I've been there twice in August and it was great.

Montreal is one of the most beautiful cities year round. Winters can be cold or sometimes mild. If you want a Canadian cold, go to Manitoba. Nothing brutal about Montreal. IMO. We also have a city underground if you can't stand the cold.

Yes, Montreal is my favourite city and I love the underground, which is quite unique, but I have always had a hard time during the winters there. The cold seems to go through the bone. But, the summers are sexy!

Adopting isn't all that easy either or inexpensive either. For many women, treatment for infertility is more of a sure thing and much, much cheaper. I have friends who have been on waiting lists for years and years and have paid upwards of $11,000-$22,000 waiting for a baby to adopt. There are also age and health restrictions now, especially if you want to adopt from China. I've also seen a friend's heart get broken when the 14 year old birthmother who was going to give up her child backed out at the last minute.
Some states have mandated infertility coverage because in many cases infertility is a health problem (endometriosis is one example), so it's much cheaper to go the fertility drug route.
I'm no fan of Celine, but I can see why she'd want to give her embryos a chance. Once you see what that embryo can become ( a beloved child) it's probably hard to know that you have other babies on ice waiting. Her age isn't as much of a factor, because her eggs were frozen in her 30s, thus being of a better quality than forty year old eggs would be. Miscarriages are extremely common, and it's not like her miscarried because she uterus sucked and wore out because of her age. It was just an unlucky thing, that most women will experience. I've had a miscarriage, as have the majority of my friends, and we've all gone on to have healthy babies. If you know anything about a baby's development from conception to birth, the fact that ANY baby gets born is actually a pretty big miracle, in my opinion.
Adoption can absolutely be a wonderful thing, but to say "just adopt" makes it sound like it's an easy peasy process. It's also not for everyone. I don't think I'd be able to withstand the pressure of adotpion-- the stringent adoption guidelines, the home visits, the probability of an open adoption, etc. just wasn't for me.

Absolutely, but cost isn't an issue for Celine. And I don't mean to suggest adoption is easy - it's not, no matter what route you take. Although either is what she's doing. And at the end of this expensive, difficult, sometimes heartbreaking process, she's going to have added another person to the world, instead of giving a good home to one who is already out there, and really needs one. But parenting isn't rational, I know that all too well. Someone told me that if the decision to have children was purely a rational decision, no one would ever reproduce!

We also have a city underground if you can't stand the cold. Manitoba produces very hardy and resilient people. As for Celine's son he actually looks like a boy now.
