Leo doesn't do it for me now and didn't do it for me then. At all. I went in with low expectations, but of course I had to see it or be culturally irrelevant. I *loved*it. I think that Kate Winslet and Gloria Stuart were so strong, and I felt their story, plus it was just EPIC. I don't think we get very many movies like that anymore. The special effects didn't overshadow the story; the balance was just right.
I don't remember getting sick of the song. Someone taught some of the small cousins to sing it at a family gathering after a celebration-of-life sort of funeral. I wasn't married yet and I remember being very wowed by that moment. Maybe that's why the omnipresence of the song never bothered me.
I hope Celine finds happiness in whatever she does. She seems genuine, kind, and you never hear a bad word about her.

I agree, rio. She just seems like good people. Plus, as per Kathy Griffin's stories, she has a good sense of humor about herself, which is huge in my book.
(I haaaaated the movie. But maybe that was my 19yo cynicism talking... I used to be cynical. Weird, right?)

On uutooobe there a couple not great quality clips of Celine covering Adele songs Hello and Rolling in the deep, Now there's a duet I'd like to hear.
Kate Winselt was the draw to Titanic for me that and I always thought A Night to Remember was the Titanic movie, they both pretty good. And I need to get up North and Titanic museum in Belfast and totally sing along with Celine!

I liked everything about Titanic except Leo. I had not liked him since Growing Pains and all these years later my feelings have not changed.
The special effects were amazing though.

I can't even describe how much I love Titanic. I saw it with a guy that I worked with. I wasn't sure what to expect but I just came out practically floating. I also always stop and watch it when it's on TV, but truthfully I don't think I've caught it on TV for the last 10 years or so. Does anybody still air it? When it came out in 3-D 3 or 4 years back, I was sitting there opening weekend on Easter Sunday. And I still swooned. And I still wanted Rose to move the hell over on that board.

My friends can only get me to see films of his if they promise he dies in the end. We must be related! Thankfully my sister & I first watched Titanic at home. By the end we were screaming "Die, Jack, Die!". The only time it was a surprise for me was in "The Departed" and of course it was the ONE time I was rooting for his character. I liked "Titanic" but it hasn't aged well for me. That said, Celine Dion sung the hell out of the song.

The Departed is what turned me around on Leo because sometimes his adult performances lack something, but he really came across as raw and genuine in The Departed.
However if you think Leo was a weak spot in Titanic, I would highly encourage you to go to youtube and watch Kate Winslet's Titanic screen test with Jeremy Sisto. It is excruciating. His acting skills are fine, but compared to Leo he's dull, overly serious, and has no chemistry with Kate Winslet whatsoever. That one short scene seems to drag on awkwardly forever.
It really demonstrates how much charm and charisma Leo brought to the role, and how much the movie relied upon the chemistry between Leo & Kate.

That said, Celine Dion sung the hell out of the song. Somewhere I heard a snippet of interview with one of the big wigs from the movie (pretty sure it wasn't Cameron) and they mentioned that the vocal track for that song was essentially her demo of it- they heard it and thought that she was never going to be able to do any better than that because it was perfection.
