I hate the "pixellation," but the rest of the dress is spectacular. I wouldn't call myself a superfan or anything, but I love Celine because she seems so genuinely kind on top of her mind-blowing talent. I hope that she can enjoy the rest of her life and perhaps find love again.

Most pop singers seem to ruin their pipes with one or both of the two biggest voice-trashers: booze and cigarettes. Celine no doubt has avoided both and she sounds amazing as a result. Yup, and if those two don't ruin them the biggest culprit, shit vocal technique, always does in the end. It's shocking to me how many professional singers have no idea how to actually sing. And I don't just mean stay on pitch (*cough*katytaylorrhianna*cough*) but how to produce sound in a way that isn't actively damaging their chords.

It's a small thing, but moving from the diaphragm and really pushing from there was a small trick that my choral teacher taught us all--and it helps a lot. Celine does that, well. Mariah Carrey does not.

I'm just curious because I have no vocal training whatsoever, but could someone link to a clip of Taylor or somebody doing something that's bad technique that will kill their voice later? I would like to be able to install the "That's good technique!" filter to my listening ear.
Although I'm not a fan or anything, Taylor's voice sounds okay to me. (As opposed to someone like Jlo who has a really thin, nasally voice.) Not Celine, but ok. Katy Perry has some catchy songs but her voice just sounds *unpleasant* to my ear.

Proper breath support is important, especially if you want to hold notes for longer or produce more volume or avoid sounding breathy. But, what destroys a voice quickly is where you produce you notes. If a singer is primarily producing sound from their throat rather than their head, their vocal cords will be strained much more quickly. If you are forcing a well supported note that your vocal cords wouldn't normally make, your are destroying your vocal cords.

I always hear Adele has horrible technique especially that squeaking sound she makes in Someone Like You. Does she have horrible technique?

She needs to get herself to a good singing teacher to learn good techniques.

Whatever Celine does to preserve and maintain her voice....she could make millions training others. Because it is powerful. I saw her last night and she was amazing. GAH! How does she sing like that? What a great show. And to top it off, the show was supposed to start at 7:30. Usually shows in Vegas start very close to advertised times. Her show didn't start till 7:50 and I was getting a bit annoyed. After her opening song, she did something I've never heard a performer do...She. Apologized. For. Being. Late. Said it was all her fault, she was getting ready and couldn't find something....whatever. I didn't even care. The fact that she even said it....made me love her even more.
