He's a wealthy white dude who's never suffered any real consequences for his temper tantrums, so I'd say no. Actually, I think this movie is a consequence for his tantrums. I mean he's an Oscar winner and he's doing this crap? I mean he can't even get in a decent franchise, like Marvel.

I mean he can't even get in a decent franchise, like Marvel. Nope. Just in the DC franchise, albeit briefly as Superman's father in the most recent DC films.

Given that the industry is full of male actors with a reputation for "perfectionism" , I figure Crowe must have really developed a pattern that goes beyond that. Of course it doesn't help that he didn't hold onto his looks in an industry that is fixated on superficialities. Or perhaps he's perceived as not just demanding and difficult, but toxic to work with and unrepentant about that? Someone like DDL, for example, must be a total PITA on set, but he always came across as quiet and polite apart from that. Or Christian Bale has a pretty great career, but beyond the physical transformations he is still pretty handsome, has apologized for known tantrums and doesn't seem hateful, just demanding?

Yeah, I think Crowe's current career is partially punishment for being fat and partially punishment for being horrible to deal with. One or the other men can usually get away with. Ridley Scott hasn't gone near him since he was a nightmare on Robin Hood and that was a pretty dumb partnership to wreck.
While we're on the topic of how much Russell sucks, can we please revisit Les Miserables? How such a tone deaf person with a complete lack of musical ability got cast in that movie I have no idea. He was painfully atrocious. I started laughing when he first started singing because it was that ridiculously bad.
I think DDL is not someone you can chat with on set. You have to leave him in his own world. But I don't think he goes around causing problems for people.

I lived in Austin at the time and I seem to remember they played Stubbs? But he was so awful in Les Mis I turned it off. He could not handle broadway style singing. Everyone loves Gladiator but my favorite RC movie is Master and Commander. I love that movie so much.

I really loved Master and Commander, too. I always stop to watch it when it's on cable.
But that Mummy movie he made with Tom Cruise was terrible.

I think my faves were LA Confidential and Master and Commander--he was pretty hot in those....That said, it's been a long time since I've watched either, so no idea how they'd hold up to me now.

This probably belongs in "Heartthrobs You Don't Get" but I never got the hot from Russell Crowe. I think the guy looks like a potato.

I first thought he was hot in LA Confidential and my boyfriend at the time was so offended. "He has a third eye!"

I think Christian Bale is super intense. He's also a person who is VERY aware of his privilege. I remember the British GQ article that came out right before Batman. He was asked something like, "so you got where you are because of hard work?" And he basically said that a HUGE reason for his success was because he's "white, male and can speak English."
