I think the most chilling scene in the movie is on Mustafar, when Anakin growls "I HATE YOU!" before burning up. BRRRRRRRRR!

I saw this a few days ago, but I waited to post because I wasn't sure what I thought of it. I enjoyed it for the special effects and the story was much better, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I should have. And I wasn't sure why. For some reason it was anti-climatic and I finally figured out why: Hayden Christiansen is the worst actor ever! He seemed like a pouty, insolent child instead of the tormented, driven, confused adult that he should have portrayed. I was disappointed and then I got angry because I couldn't figure out why the HELL Lucas choose him for that role! He brings no real angst or gravity to the performance. I wish they had recast the role for this last one. Its a pivotal performance that underscores the entire franchise. And because of that all the movies are ruined for me. Vader is supposed to be this powerful, focused, foreboding, ruthless black hole of a villian and until I saw this movie I always thought he was. For now on when I see the black cape and helmet I'll think of a whiny kid who couldn't control his emotions and was basically duped into being evil. He was just stupid and gullible. To be fair maybe that was Lucas' point. For us to see Vader as more than just evil. I can deal with that, but does he also have to be whiny. Hayden Christiansen's performances didn't do this villian justice. Also in all fairness, pretty much every performance sucked except Ewan and Yoda which is pretty sad considering he's not real!

InnocentOne, I see what you're saying, but I think Hayden did well - I do feel that Lucas' point was for us to see Vader as more than just the epitome of evil. I'm just a layperson when it comes to SW, but IMHO - when I watched the OT before the new ones came out, I saw Darth Vader as evil, and thats pretty much it. Yes, there is a tiny bit of humanity in the very end of ROTJ, but the evil really overshadows that. Now, after having seen the prequels, I see Vader as more human. He was a flawed, conflicted individual who eventually succumbed to the dark side to save his wife. I do have my issues with that and with the speed with which he seemed to change, but he did have a reason that was logical and "right" in his mind. Stupid and gullible to the audience, yes. But looking at it from his point of view, he did what he had to to save Padme, and didn't realize his trust in Palpatine was misplaced. We as an audience knew Palpatine was evil, but Anakin didn't have the benefit of watching the OT . He was also doubting the Jedi at the same time because of their lack of trust in him, so he turned to Palpatine, who trusted him wholeheartedly.
Due to the portrayal of Anakin in the new movies, when I went back and watched him save Luke in ROTJ I saw it as Anakin loving and saving his son, rather than Vader just striving for redemption before his death.Or, maybe I was just blinded by the pretty. Couldn't we have had more Topless!Hayden! I also feel that ROTS should have been longer so that Anakin's turn to the dark side could have been explored in depth. The way it was, it did seem fairly sudden, even though we did see some build up. Hopefully there will be some extras on the DVD.

DesiRani I completely agree with your entire post. I saw the movie again and I have to say, it was still really good. Sure there were a few flaws, but as a whole it was quite impressive.

Just saw it yesterday and I fucking loved it. -Yoda rules and he always will. Loved seeing him fight in this one and Episode 2. -The reason that Anakin turned to the dark side...heartfuckingbreaking. I knew what was going to happen but all I've ever wanted was for Anakin and Padme to have their babies and live happily ever after. Is that so much to ask? -Obi is awesome. When he was telling Anakin at the end that he loved him...I got teary eyed. -Hayden does angst like no other. He was just awesome when he was bad. "I HATE YOU!!!" (cries) -Loved seeing Chewbacca again. -Natalie looked stunning in this movie. And there's no doubt in mind her and Hayden should hook up. They were GORGEOUS together. -Mace Windu's death was wrong!!! -The fight at the end between Obi and Anakin was kickass.

Lucas should've had every alien race speaking in their native tongue, including the leads, he's hopeless with believable English dialogue. It's pretty bad when the most sincere line readings are by Wookies. Having said that...I'm still a SW fan. I'll pay $9 to see 2 hours of ass-kicking special effects. (Did I mention I was in college with the guy who animated the alien creature from Aliens II & III? He won an Oscar for that movie with Meryl Streep & Goldie Hawn....a year in which he & his partner were nominated for 2 movies, so his chances were pretty good. He almost drowned doing Aliens III...but I digress...) Does Yoda kick ass or what? I want a Yoda prequel!
Hey, you Kiwis...is Temuera Morrison related to the Maori singer/entertainer I remember from the late 60s, Howard Morrison? He had the Howard Morrison quartet, or something.

Gah. Finally saw it. I wasn't expecting much and I was STILL DISSAPOINTED!
Natalie and Hayden cannot act.
I actually felt sorry for Ewan. God, I hope he got a lot of money for that role.

My good friend who is quite critical of Star Wars finally gave in and saw it last weekend. Of course, he dragged me along for the ride since I'm a fan. i've now seen it 3x and I have to admit, I'm officially Star Wars'd out, but it was still really good. He loved it, but came to the conclusion (which I already knew) that Natalie was terrible and everyone who was in a scene with her was less good as well, Hayden and, yes, even Ewan. I agree, my opinion is she really doesn't want to be there so she does a poor job and then her negativity brings the other actor's ability down too, which makes them come across as less than stellar actors. In the rest of the movie he thought everyone was fantastic and much improved over the last one. I still thought Hayden did a really good job and we both found him convincing in the role. He actually had a hard time saying a bad thing about it, which I found funny. Deep inside, I know he's a scifi geek like me. Oh, and my favorite scene is still the one in Palpatine's office where Palpatine and Mace get into the fight and Palpatine gets deformed by the lightening and then Mace gets his hand chopped off and electrocuted out the window. I also still found the scene where Anakin goes up in flames disturbing.

I guess I'm the only one who giggled when Anakin said "I HATE YOU!" It reminded me so much of a toddler who's been denied something he wants.
