I really do like Craig as Bond, he may be my favorite...maybe even more so than Connery.
That said, I can understand if it's exhausting. But if they won't give the part to Idris Elba (the only other guy I want to see as Bond), then I like the idea of him as 009. Hiddleston as Bond? No, he'd be like Lazenby or Moore levels of unbelievable.

I was watching You're the Worst yesterday, and there was a joke about how Daniel Craig looks like an upset baby.
I can't un-see it now and have been cracking up ever since.

Of course corners of the ol innnernet place has got its knickers in a twist cos the not reading past headlines thing some do. This, exactly. I've seen so much freaking out about this, less from trolls and more from Tumblr fans who want their fave male actor to replace Craig. I think this is a way to appease those who want to diversify the franchise, but not piss off people who will scream bloody murder if James Bond is played by a non-white actor. But I love Lashana Lynch and Phoebe Waller Bridge is one of the writers, so it's got my interest. I feel like the world has moved on from James Bond. The entire premise feels outdated and like a relic of the past. Rather than shake up Bond-world, how about someone just create a new spy character, completely separate from this world and start a new franchise. I really liked SALT with Angelina, but I guess that franchise never took off. It doesn't have to be James Bond or Jason Bourne all the time.

I think I'm about the only person on the planet who does not care if the next Bond is non-white or female. James Bond is completely outdated and I rather see people of color and women create their own new fresh stories. And quite frankly having a black or female Bond isn't going to improve things in the real world and I'm more concerned about that.

I don't care either- I watch Bond films for the spy stuff - doesn't matter who is doing it as long as there are cool gadgets! Q is my favorite character.

Malcolm Nance explained this for the mouthbreathers on Twitter the other day.
007 is a job assignment, traditionally given to an officer in the Royal Navy. The 00 denotes a “license to kill” in the line of the job at hand. The 7 indicates there are at least 7 agents with that license.
Bond has held that position for 56 years. He is retiring. There is a new 007. Deal with it.
ETA: in the porn versions, Bond is usually “Jane”, but has also been “Jamie”. Would THAT be better?

The best spy movie I've seen in recent years is probably Atomic Blonde -- really stylish and brutal, with one of THE most unique action sequences I've seen in a movie in a long time.
As for Bond, it really says something that I had a hard time remembering any of the recent movies besides Skyfall (which, while not a flawless movie, did cross into some interesting territory with Javier Bardem's character). It is an odd franchise. There was some self-aware dialogue about how Bond was a dinosaur even back in the '90s Pierce Brosnan movies, yet Casino Royale was able to make the character feel fresh again.

I do think representation changes things in the real world--white men didn't pull their collective sense of entitlement from their collective asses, they've had it taught and reinforced to them by virtually every piece of media (movie/tv/advertising) around. I don't think it's as simple as 'Bond is a WOC now so racism and sexism are over,' but I definitely think there's a connection between what we see portrayed in movies and what we learn to accept/expect from people in real life.
That said: I do not care about Bond that much and would just as soon see the franchise end and have Ms. Lynch spearhead a separate action franchise. I will retract this if they make Lashana-Bond gay.

IMO Daniel Craig is a great Bond and he managed to sell the character by staying away from the "charm" of earlier versions. Since the movies don't sugarcoat Bond's behaviour and Craig's version seems somewhat self-aware, it doesn't feel as outdated. His Bond movies have also been very successful and he's helped keep the franchise alive, even though the source material is very, very outdated. But a new incarnation of the character could be whatever, since the 007 really is only a job description. If they ever deviate from their one tried and true formula is another question, of course.
