You're not alone. She bugged me in the second movie, too. I can't put my finger on it but I think a lot of it might be what you said - she was just too tough. Plus, she just always seemed so dirty to me. I realize she was living the pirate life by the end, but even in the very beginning she looked horrid. I think her wigs were awful and she was just too damn skinny. Wow, I guess I can put my finger on it. And I'm apparently very shallow. I'm getting a kick out of the trailers and posters because the pirate has Jack's little beard bead things (I'm sure they have a name). They're even animated in the trailers. It amuses me.

My brothers just come out of a screening (he works at the theatre and got a preview screening) and just LOVED it. I should be seeing it tomorrow, hopefully. He says theres a bonus scene after the credits, so stick around til the very end.

I wanted to see it tonight, but my professor is moving class back to 4pm and then taking us out to drinks afterwards since this is the last time we will all be together. Damn!
Anyhoo, I am looking forward to seeing this tomorrow night!

Re: Elizabeth.
Yeah, she seemed *too* tough. I dunno. I think I read somewhere after the first movie, Keira wanted Elizabeth to get to do some stunts and fun stuff like the guys. But I think they went overboard. It's no longer Elizabeth...it's Keira in the movie. Does that make sense?
We're going tonight! I can't wait to see Chow yun fat!!!! I've told my husband if they make Elizabeth kick his ass, I'm leaving the theatre.
(And yep, DO NOT pair Elizabeth with Capt Jack. Give Orlando back his lines!)

Exactly MrsCatHead! So Kiera thought she was important enough to demand something like that? She is not bigger than the movie! I hate it when actors get so full of themselves and make the directors change scenes so they can feel better about themselves. And HELLO you are in a movie with Johnny Depp ...isn't that good enough! My dislike for her grows. But I still want to see this movie. I keep bugging Mr. Aims about it. ;D

I don't think she 'demands' particular things like moreweapons stunt work etc. But she seems to have a bewitching effect on the older male (ie most producers, directors, writers, journalists etc) so that they seem incapable of rational thought!
it isn't the first time that the part has been rewritten or interpreted to incorporate the "Keira factor" I believe even as far back as "Doctor Zhivago" and certainly"King Arthur"the part was adapted to capitalise on Kera's perceived assets.
At least with the POTC franchise, much anaysing of the factors that made the Elizabeth Swann character a favorite would have shown that viewers like the feisty kick-ass warrior chick vibe so they'd be planning the role in the second and third sequels to reflect that. And any lack of connection with the original Elizabeth can be explained but growth in the character's arc.
Even the P&P Elizabeth was a feisty 'modern' chick. I won't really count her as an accomplished actress until I've seen something other than feisty - some vulnerability for example.
Not sure I want to see this if they've turned it into a Keira vehicle. I try to like her cos she always seems hard working and well adjusted but there's that annoying factor that's hard to overcome.

After what eigasuki said, I'm a little less annoyed with her. But I do agree with not wanting POTC turned into a 'Keira vehicle'. For the people that already saw AWE, did it seem like it was very feisty-Keira/ Elizabeth centered?

My local paper reviewed it this morning and didn't like it. They said it was really chaotic and unfocused, and had way too many subplots going on.
I will say though, I don't mind feisty Elizabeth. It's one of the main reasons why I actually like Keira a lot; she isn't just another one of those pretty damsel in distress types, a la Mary Jane Watson. And even in movies like "Catwoman" (no I didn't see it; I'm just commenting based on what I know of it) it seems like producers are trying to equate female empowerment with taking their clothes off and using their feminine wiles to their advantage. Which I don't agree with at all, and I don't think Keira agrees with it either. She isn't afraid to get a little dirty, and she can kick ass with the best of them.
