I just got back from seeing it and I loved it. I didn't find it hard to follow at all, especially since they explained everything that was going on plenty enough during the whole film.
Loved Johnn, Kiera was ok but still too much chin jutting. Orlando really hits the mark and was so great in his role - not to mention very hotttttttt.

I also just got back from seeing it and also loved it. I was starting to get confused by all the double and triple crosses but eventually I just gave up (and figured that everyone was basically out for themselves) and enjoyed the ride. Keith Richards was much better than I expected, I wasn't expecting him to really act and he totally did. The multiple Jacks were freakin hilarious, as was monkey Jack. I was loving Barbossa too.
I was really surprised and impressed by the end. It wasn't a completely happy ending and that was a nice switch for a big Hollywood movie, although I think killing Elizabeth's father was a bit much. And Norrington deserved a much better death than that. And Orlando Bloom looked hot for the first time in recorded history, he was all manly looking and everything. Elizabeth did annoy me a bit but she did in the other two so that's nothing new.

I just got back from seeing POTC3. I really liked it, but then again I really liked the second one too. The plot was all over the place, but it was in the first and second one also, so I don't think that was a big departure. I think this one went into unchartered territory; it was a little deeper and more angsty than the first two.
I actually like Elizabeth in this. I liked that she wasn't just a damsel in distress, but was totally kickass. ***[beige]She was elected King of the Pirates! And she lead them into battle[/beige]*** Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't remember a female character in an action movie being a leader like that.
I did think that Capt. Jack kind of took a back seat in this movie. He was still awesome, but it was like he had mellowed and matured a little. I did think the ***[beige]hallucinations and talking to himself were trippy and kinda creepy[/beige]***. But Keith Richards was great!
I was totally blown away by Orlando Bloom. He was the real star of this movie in my opinion. And he was so hot! ***[beige]Especially when he was the captain of the Flying Dutchman. Swoon.[/beige]*** I was sitting next to Orly fan girls, and I think it's contagious.

For those of us who thought Part 1 was mildly entertaining, but nothing much, and passed on Part 2.... do we need to watch Part 2 to understand part 3? Besides the brilliant Depp, is it really worth it?

My thoughts would be was that if you weren't really into Part 1 then you probably aren't going to want to see Part 3. It's darker with bigger action sequences, but sometimes at the expense of the characters, if that helps. If you do decide to see it some people would say "Doesn't matter if you saw Part 2 or not, it's so confusing you'll be lost anyway," but I didn't think it was that confusing and I would say you should see Part 2 at least so you have a clue what's going on with the Davey Jones plotline.

I loved it.
Total and complete love. Way, way better than DMC.
And yeah, if you didn't like 1, you probably will dislike 3, but you need to see 2 to not be too lost.
Oh, I adored it.

I enjoyed it. I wasn't even annoyed by the Mary Sueing of Elizabeth, because I have no particular feelings one way or the other toward Keira Knightley, and I wasn't in a hating mood (unlike when I am watching Lost). I feel like I enjoyed it because I wanted to, you know? I rolled my eyes so much less in this one than I did in the second one.
It is long, but it feels shorter than the second one did with its interminable sequences that added nothing to the plot (cannibals etc.). I like it more than the second one... and possibly more than the first, because I've seen the first one so many times now that it's boring.
Will was hot, especially at the end. I really liked <<that he took over the Flying Dutchman. Not a happy ending (which was awesome), but a satisfying one.>> I rolled my eyes at the post-credits scene, but I guess it is only logical.
I did find the characters' motivations and plans very difficult to follow, but I had that problem with the second one too, and it had about half as many plot threads.

I just got back from seeing this and I absolutely loved it. The audience seemed to as well, as there was applause at the end of the movie.
I thought they did a great job of balancing the humor and action scenes.
And I loved what they did with Keira's character. It seemed like a natural character progression to me.

Okay, I have another spoiler prompted question: <<I know that Norrington and Elizabeth's dad both die. but if Will takes over the Flying Dutchman, does that mean he's dead? Or rather, "dead" in the sense that those guys have to pledge 100 years to ship's service? What happens as far as the Will/Elizabeth/Jack triangle?>>

What a complete and total mess, but I really had fun watching it. Yes, I can watch Geoffrey Rush pirate around all day.
I also want to mention that I'm not usually into older guys at all, but this movie is like my own personal Ground Zero of hot older men: Rush, Stellan Skarsgard, and Bill Nighy. Yes, I know I am a huge freak for thinking about this while Johnny and Orlando are running around onscreen, but it's true. I also thought Naomie Harris was great, I guess you could get into the whole "mystical black woman" trope, but she played it really well, if you ask me.
Elizabeth/Keira Knightley was hit or miss with me. I loved her Chinese gear! And the fact that a woman was actually kicking ass in a non-exploitive way. OTOH she was very Mary Sue, and her motivational speech about freedom nearly made my eyes roll out of my HEAD.
All in all, great fun along with a lot of "WTF?" moments. And not always WTF in a good way.
