I LOVED IT! LOVED IT! will be going to see it again tonite.
people take this film way too seriously, I think. It's like they have to interject some philosophy/deep thought into it. The film really isn't about that. Just a story to watch and have fun. Nothing more than that. And it delivered and then some.

Okay, I have another spoiler prompted question: << I know that Norrington and Elizabeth's dad both die. but if Will takes over the Flying Dutchman, does that mean he's dead? Or rather, "dead" in the sense that those guys have to pledge 100 years to ship's service? What happens as far as the Will/Elizabeth/Jack triangle?>> ** Yes, he's more "dead" than real dead. He's basically the new Davy Jones. He was also not really dead, he was just walking around with his heart outside his body. And Jack is no longer part of any romantic triangle Elizabeth makes it quite clear that she was only coming on to him in order to save the rest of them by trapping him with the ship, she never had any real romantic interest in him.**

We saw it last night and I loved it! yes, it was all over the place and cheesy at times, but it's about PIRATES fer crying out loud! The original concept was based on a Disney ride. It's not philosophical cinema, it's a fun summer movie. Also, when he became the captain of the Flying Dutchman Orlando Bloom was smoking hot! That's the first time I have ever found him attractive. So much yummy hotness running around in this one. I even spent time drooling over evil, EVIL Beckett, who was a super dick in this one and totally got what he deserved in the end. But he was still hot. How can you go wrong with shirtless, tattooed Johnny? *swoon*

I don't think people are necessarily taking the movie too seriously. Most of the complaints seem to be along the lines of the plot being way too convoluted ('cos it's a big dumb almost-summer blockbuster, so I think that shows that people aren't looking to take it seriously), and that's a valid concern, IMO.
That said, one of the questions my friends had was: "So what happened to that black woman...you know, Calypso? I mean, did she die? I just stared at her. Yeah, the plot is way too messy, but that was one of the simplest parts to understand!

So I guess how you feel about this movie will depend on how much you like or dislike Elizabeth?

Not necessarily, but if you absolutely hate her, that is probably going to get in the way of your enjoyment. But I would think that hatred would have the same effect while watching all three of these movies, so.

I thought it was great but I wish they had showed the death of the Kraken.

I thought it was great but I wish they had showed the death of the Kraken. That's the exact same thing my boyfriend said. He really liked the movie but that one thing is still bugging him. He really hopes that there is a deleated scene that explains it. I just figured that Beckett had it killed or something.

It was so cool though, it deserved better than being poked by a stick by the one eyed guy. I kind of thought it was a whale until one of the people in the back mentioned what it was.
Beckett's final scene on the boat was beautifully done, I was holding my breath when he was walking down the stairs and whatnot.
And the end made me sad. After three movies I want a happy ending you know? Not a bone on a beach and a sad goodbye. Really? Once every ten years they get to be together for freaking eternity? I'm going to go to Disneyland and like...fart on the ride for that nonsense.
