Kore, the scene after the credits <<takes place 10 years later, and Elizabeth and a nine-year-old boy are waiting on the shore of the island where the movie ended. I think that green light flashed on the horizon at this point. Will and the Flying Dutchman come back and... I think that's about it, but I have a horrible memory for the endings of movies.>>

Haven't seen it yet but those numbers aren't surprising. That many big movies in one month, aren't people getting slightly sick of that? It's not even summer yet.

I don't see why people are calling Elizabeth a Mary Sue. I think there was growth in her character. She went from a child who was fascinated with pirates to becoming a pirate. That doesn't seem so weird to me, but then again I picture a Mary Sue as someone who had nothing to do with the original production taking a character and changing it for their own story. That is just my opinion.
I heard that Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski have both expressed interest in doing a fourth film. I would be happy with another movie, but that is because I liked all three of them.

incognito said that scene was cut out of the movie. Ahh, thanks! Yeah, not a good thing to cut, people! We kinda need that info! I dunno...I think the series is played out, really. Why make another?

I think they should just quit while they're ahead. You don't want to overstay your welcome, and I think that a 4th movie would really be pushing it. As much as I love the movies and all the characters, I think a 4th movie would be a bad idea.

I agree that they should quit while they are ahead. I read somewhere that Orlando Bloom was not interested in making another PoTC movie after this one. Not that the absence of Will Turner would be a deal breaker, but I think Captain Jack Sparrow has come full circle with this story<<re: the boat he sails away on is a mirror of the one he sailed in on in PoTC #1>> and needs to retire to << Key West, which it seemed he was looking at on the map.>>

I think writers can have their own Mary Sues. I would have no problem calling Harry Potter J.K. Rowling's Mary Sue (although I've never read the books, so... Who knows, maybe it's Hermione). The basic definition of a Mary Sue is a self-insert character whom everyone loves, whom all the guys want to be with, who does extremely unlikely things because she's just that awesome, who doesn't really have any flaws, etc. So I definitely think Elizabeth is somewhat of a Mary Sue.
And yeah, they should definitely stop with the sequels now. Three is a good number; four is too many.

People might be waiting to see this movie, to hear that it didn't suck. Lots of people saw last year's and it SUCKED (IMO), so maybe people might be staying away this year until they hear it's good.
And Orlando was HOT, usually I never find him attractive.

4 of us went to see this movie yesterday and we couldn't get in. Sold out. All 4 theatres. They were selling tickets for the evenings show but I wasn't going to drive back to Red Deer. I was so sad expecially since we decided to go see Georgia Rule instead. It was such a let down, I was bored to tears and I could hear Pirates next door. I am glad to read your spoilers before I see it though so I can understand it a bit better as everyone seems to be a bit confused. They were saying on the radio how confusing it was and without Johnny Depp they didn't think this movie would ever fly. I think a fourth movie would be good in about 7 - 8 years with Jack Depp as the young boy looking for his parents and Jack Sparrow, the monkey and Barbarossa swoop in to help him. And we don't see Orlando or Kiera until the end of the movie.
