I liked the sequels, I actually think they're quite good.

Yeah, I love the sequels. Apparently that's unpopular, but I love the entire series. I mean, none of the movies are perfect but still: LOVE.

I do too. And I kind have viewed the first three films as one insane epic narrative. But it is definitely problematic because it seemed like the 3rd film, to me at least, had a decent ending/wrap-up of the Elizabeth Swann/Will saga. As popular as Captain Jack and Johnny Depp have gotten, it wasn't, initially, his story. For him to agree to another film makes me truly question his artistic sensibility and, frankly, makes me think he's a bit of a sell-out.

Well, I guess that was my unpopular movie opinion for the day. hunter, they're making three more sequels. I agree about Johnny Depp, and I do adore him, but playing Jack Sparrow for the rest of his life is beneath him. He has to pay for that private island somehow, I guess.

I still get confused by the plot of At World's End and who is backstabbing and double-crossing whom but I enjoy all the Pirates movies. Johnny Depp is the only actor truly crucial to the franchise so kudos to Disney for nabbing him. I liked Keira as Elizabeth but her arc had a satisfying conclusion in AWE. I could care less about Orlando as Will. He was out-acted by the barnacles on the ships.

I don't understand the backstabbing in AWE, either, but it was still fun. I'm just thrilled Captain Jack will continue to prance.

I loved the scene in AWE when Jack asks if anyone came to save him because they missed him, and the monkey is the only one that raises his hand.
I can't fault Johnny Depp for making big money movies, he does have kids now after all. And I think they're probably the only movies he's made that wouldn't weird them out or be horribly depressing to watch.

Don't you think he's making these movies for his kids to see?? I think he's making these movies cause he genuinely loves prancing about as Jack Sparrow. It's just an added bonus that his kids can see them. I guess I don't get the sell out label. He's doing a project he loves to do and playing a character with which he obviously has a real connection. How is that selling out? Just cause the series also happens to be popular? Doing the Pirate movies doesn't seem to be preventing him from taking other more serious roles (In fact it's probably helped his choice of roles as he can now get a movie green lit just on his name alone). As an actor he probably needs a break from the drama sometimes so Captain Jack makes a nice change of pace. Personally, I think the series as a whole would've been better if each sequel was it's own self contained story instead of the long drawn out three movie arc. Hopefully these new movies will have completely new adventures to establish instead of rehashing the stuff from the first three.

Johnny Who? It's all about Ian McShane, people!
My friend's joke title for the film was POTC4: Mermaids Be Triflin'.
