I'll admit to laughing at the "Hermione eats Harry's face" kiss. That shit was hilarious. The creepiest part was Bathilda Bagshot. She was just creepy: the staring eyes, the silence, popping up out of nowhere, the staring eyes....

I've been thinking about the movie again, and forgot to ask about one of my most favorite parts. In the scene where Harry is fighting Nagini, he is thrown into a nursery. The scene moved really fast, so I couldn't really tell, but was Bathilda's house supposed to be directly next door to the Potters', and he was thrown through a wall into his old nursery? I couldn't understand how one second he was in a dimly lit house, and then in a brightly lit, almost new/still in use nursery. Another bit I loved: Harry testing the new wand and the fire shooting in the air. Hee! I also loved that they left Fred and George's "Holey" scene in. God, part 2 is going to be brutal. And I didn't think about it until just now, but Hermione's dance scene with Viktor got cut out.

I am also glad that they didn't drag out the forest scenes as much as the book did. That's the part that did me in and I started skimming through (and couldn't stop once the action got more hurried). The scenery was gorgeous though. Great with IMAX.

Boy these people are quick! To all the other BAMF Neville lovers, I thought you'd enjoy this.

PopWatch re-watches the first Harry Potter movie and also discusses a little the overall development of the series. I only recently watched parts of the second one when it was on TV. Why are people always wondering about the length of that one? The first two movies didn't leave much out of the books and included almost all the mentioned characters and storylines. I think Columbus did his best and created two cutesy kids' movies which were close to the source (as in not being as dark as the later ones). The article also acknowledges the fact that Ron was practically abandoned in later parts of the series though the writers put that down to more "actorly chemistry" between Emma and Dan. I'd say it was down to Kloves' crush on Hermione but whatever. Listened to some sort of movie expert on the radio last night and he said that while Emma will always be in the spotlight and get roles, he thought that Rupert will be the one with roles in great movies as (according to this man) he's apparently the one with the most offers right now. Don't know if that's true but I hope it is. I'm fully on the Grint bandwagon after seeing HP 7.1.

Saw this yesterday with my youngest and a niece and nephew. I've never read the books and only know the story from the movies. The camping part was dull and it seems that issues, plot points, and people were hinted at and not developed eg, the old lady who knew all about Dumbledore. Whatever the criticisms of the first two movies are, they are accessable to those of us who don't know the books. I do appreciate how the series has been crafted with care and quality. My youngest loved the Percy Jackson series and that movie was a mess. I don't think Emma Watson will have a great shelf life as an actor. She seems bland and not that good to me. (but I don't really know about these things) That Ron Weasly actor... I felt like a dirty, dirty old woman watching him.

Hell, I've felt that way since POA GoF, but he's nice and legal now. And I agree, the fans and critics have a general consensus that Rupert is the true actor of the bunch. Dan may be a harder worker, and Emma may be pretty and popular, but Rupert has the goods.

Saw it today and enjoyed it. Definitely feels like a "Part One" rather than a complete story, but it was a good-looking movie and the camping stuff didn't drag as much as I thought it would.
I also thought the main three did a good job. And I agree on the assessment - Rupert is probably the most natural actor of the three. I admire the way Dan has really worked to improve. He could have easily just rested on his laurels and raked in the HP cash. Emma did fine, and whether or not she continues to improve will depend on how interested she is in continuing acting. I get the feeling that if someone told her she could never act again, she wouldn't be too broken-hearted about it.
I thought Rupert did a good job with the jealousy stuff, and I loved the way Ron kept doing really obvious things to try to get back into Hermione's good graces. The boy has got it bad and it's adorable.
There was a TON of second-hand embarrassment for Dan Rad during the dancing scene. A guy a couple seats down from me actually said, "Oh, my god" out loud and hid his eyes. Then the same guy was all, "Dude! Don't do it!" at the end of the dance when it looked like Harry might kiss her. As for the dance scene, I didn't mind it so much (and all the groans of embarrassment in the audience made it kinda fun), but Dan played it a little too much like a seduction. Like, was he trying to put the moves on her or not? I thought Emma played it just right (especially with the way she just walked away at the end). I know that's more of a direction problem than an acting problem, but it was a problem.
The Fug Girls tweeted my favorite comment about Snape:
Not enough Snape, as usual. But he really doesn't come into play until the second half of the book, so...okay. But I swear to god, if they skip over "The Prince's Tale" segment, I will hunt Kloves down.
Glad Ginny was barely there. Neville was awesome in his one scene, but he looks about 24 years old now. Fred and George were hilarious, and made me sad to think what happens later.
ETA: I noticed that Tonks wasn't able to get out the news that she's pregnant, and they don't meet up with Lupin, hiding out from his pregnant wife. I wonder if that will be addressed at all in the movie, or if the idea of an orphaned infant (who isn't Harry) got the producers thinking it would bum everyone out.

But I swear to god, if they skip over "The Prince's Tale" segment, I will hunt Kloves down. I really wonder if and how they will include both Snape's and Dumbledore's back stories in the last film. The Prince's Tale occurs almost at the end of the book and I can't see them practically interrupting the epic Hogwarts battle for quite a long scene that finally explains Snape. I agree they shouldn't skip it but I wonder how they'll do it. My guess is that Dumbledore's love story will be shortened as much as possible; if they'll include the King's Cross scene, he might get to explain himself there. I just want them to show badass Neville and Molly "Not my daughter, you bitch!" Weasley. One of the two times I ever cried during the books was when Harry walks through the forest with his parents' ghosts to face Voldemort and asks his mother to stay close to him. If they leave that scene in I know I'll cry my eyes out.
