I saw this yesterday and I loved it! The whole thing just looked amazing, the last scene was just incredible and gut-wrenching. And on a pervy note, Rupert is looking very cute (but I'm a sucker for redheads).
We were in a packed theater full of kids, and I'm happy to report they were all well-behaved. It was even nice having kids in the theater because they giggled at all the kid jokes I wouldn't have noticed.
And how many freakin' previews did they show? At least 7, if not more.

Have they casted Bellatrix Lestrange yet? I could have sworn that I read--perhaps here-- that the role was cast. But I cannot remember who it was...not a name, I guess. Going back in the thread to look... Aha! I knew I had seen this!

Well, I've just come back from seeing the movie and I really liked it. It isn't perfect but still very well done. This was also the first time Daniel Radcliffe really convinced me, he's grown into the role (about time!) and was easily the best out of the kids IMO. And I have to say: It's very rare that I cry at the movies and I'm a little ashamed that it happened during a HP movie but that scene when <<Harry returned with Cedric's body and held onto him>> was really sad, especially with << the reaction of Cedric's father. Grieving parents are hard to watch, even fictional ones.>>
I loved the Yule Ball. Yes, the film turned into a RomCom all of a sudden but it was nicely done and it's cool to see those kids behaving like real teenagers, all over-dramatic and awkward. I guess that's why I didn't mind Emma Watson so much although MovieHermione is clearly different from BookHermione. But I like to blame Kloves for that.
Oh, and I really liked the scene in the common room after the first task. Nice acting from both Daniel and Rupert.

Agreed, Moldy Tofu. They do remarkably well and seem to remain quite level-headed even with their level of success.
The only direct problem I had was with the editing of the Quidditch World Cup scenes. So much was left out, and I was really disappointed at how short and choppy it was.

PoA is still my favorite movie in the series. GoF felt almost too plot driven--if that makes sense--which is why it seemed so choppy to me. It lacked the artistry of PoA. Of course, it had more plot to deal with so I understand. And I did really enjoy it, especially the scenes with Harry and Ron.

I believe it was on The Old Place that they coined the expression "Fuck Kloves!" for that exact reason. I'm also extremely bothered by movie Hermione. Emma Watson is a very pretty girl. Hermione is probably, pre-GoF anyway, average looking. The thing I loved about Hermione when I first read the books (back in middle school, and I'm in college now) was that I saw myself in her: frizzy hair, uneven buck teeth, used big words to make sure everyone knew how smart I was... Anyway. I just didn't buy why Parvati would sound so shocked when she sees Hermione and says "she looks beautiful!" because Hermione looks beautiful ALL the time in the movies. Duh, she's a movie star. They could have at least frumped Emma up in the first few movies. Thrown some fake teeth on her. It doesn't help that Kloves looooves Hermione and wants to put her in scenes she's not in and throw everyone else's lines to her, and make her the apparent object of Harry's affections (though the plot of this movie made it a little harder for him to do so, and since the last book has been published they'll have to back off). Okay, end of UglyHermione rant.
As far as the Trio's acting as a whole, before PoA I felt they really were one-note actors, and I blame Columbus for that because he's kind of a one-note director. Harry's stoic, Hermione is a prissy know-it-all, and Ron is scared of everything. After they got a decent director to work with, all three of them grew a lot as actors, and I was very impressed by how Radcliffe and Grint continued to grow. Emma Watson definitely has her good moments in GoF (when Harry & Ron make up after the first task and she mutters "boys!") but there are times (on the Hogwarts Express, when the twins put their names in the Goblet) that she reverted to the know-it-all who knits her eyebrows to show she's thinking. Okay, end of Bad Director/Child Actor rant.

I actually liked Emma in this. I thought she was better in the third film, but I didn't think she was so bad in this one. She's definitely better than some american actresses older than her (kate bosworth, I'm talking about you), but the other two actors have really improved a lot since the last film. Truth is, I'm so used to seeing her as Hermione that I don't think I could view anyone else in that role.

I thought Rupert improved a lot. His acting in the last two movies sort of made me cringe--esp. when he'd make those weird faces. Susy, I agree with your feelings about Hermione's looks. I think they at least tried in the first movie to make her hair sort of bushy, but fact is, movie-goers like to see attractive people onscreen. I think I read somewhere that when the first movie was made, they didn't want to commit themselves definitely to using the same child actors for the rest of the series, in case they wouldn't "age" well once puberty hit them. I guess they ended up "lucking out" in that none of the three went through a really awkward looking stage like many teenagers do.
