Interesting how Amazon's lists are so different from the real video charts. While Amazon has both Firefly and Serenity in the top five, the real charts that collect data from not only all online retailers but from actual retailers have Serenity already fallen to # 6 and Firefly nowhere on the entire top 20. Not surprising though, internet saavy fanboys/girls tend to buy their stuff online and that is a huge part of Serenity's small fanbase. So it makes sense that online retailers will have the property higher. But I also read that online DVD retail sales make up only 6 % of all DVD sales. I think very few properties have had the "honor" of tanking on TV, then being revived on film, to tank there too, and then tanking on DVD...

Universal have announced that Serenity will be one of the first movies released on HD-DVD. Serenity is the third best selling DVD on Amazon. I guess they have all the stock since many retailers sold out. And Firefly is number four on Amazon. Not bad for a show that went off the air several years ago. There are a lot of people out there buying both DVDs. I knew I should have waited! They always do this with my favourite films (ie put out a bigger and/or better version). I just checked Billboard and its #5. Its also in the top 10 for Futureshop and Best Buy sales. Those are actual real live stores, not like fake Amazon. I was just reading Imdb and there's a troll there who must read this board, because he/she posts EXACTLY all the same stats that spider does. Funny. That troll at imdb has waaaay to much time on his/her hands. Sad really.

So it did even worse on Billboard, eh? I was expecting it...and God knows how much will it fall next week, If the other two real charts that encompas all retailers (Video Business and Hollywood Reporter)had the DVD fall from 3 to 6, I imagine this will do a 5 to 10 on Billboard fall at least.
I feel bad for the fans, because after the box office failure, DVD sales would determine the chances of a sequel happening, but I don't feel bad for the Firefly/Serenity property itself. It deserves its bomb status three-peat.
BTW...anyone knows what Summer Glau is doing next? I know that she is a bad actress, but someone mentioned that her acting in Serenity has opened many doors in Hollywood...is that true? Is it true that she is in plans to do a film with Tom Cruise?

A direct-to-dvd sequel would be awesome, hopefully that works out! I suppose I'm a bit selfish in that I don't care how I get my Firefly fix, as long as I get it. ;D

Interesting interview with Whedon: "A sequel's unlikely,"As usual with his failures, he never even considers the possibility of the property itself being bad or having no appeal. Just like he blamed Firefly's failure on Fox and the TOAD line on Halle Berry, he blames the marketing for the film's tanking at the box office: ""It's a question of marketing ultimately. The fact that I like to dance around genres with gay abandon has worked to my disadvantage. Nobody knows exactly how to market anything I do because it usually has so much in it." I just love how he says that nobody knows how to market his stuff cuz it has so much in it. God forbid that his stiff isn't good or has zero appeal to audiences, it must be those darn suits' fault... ;D

Nah, That interview was posted today on the Empire site(check the date) Even the very up-to-date Whedonesque site has a link to it, and it's in their first page today. Any link to this allegedly new IMDB interview? IMDB is famous for their inaccuracies...in fact they still have a listing that says that Serenity cost 40 million dollars, while Browncoats always insist that it's not 40, but 39 the correct figure.

Yeah...It was just a tad less than 40. (and the film made lass than 39 worldwide, not even counting all the overhead costs and other fees including the money that theater owners keep, losing at least 20 million dollars for Universal)
Did you find that IMDB link to the interview? I wonder how much money they will get to make a Straight-To-Video sequel for a film that tanked. If 40 million got them the horrible production values that Serenity had, I can't imagine what kind of sequel they will do with less than that. (that is provided this alleged new interview really is new...and this sequel really happens)
