The Greek government isn't too happy about it, that's for sure. More here.

Rightfully so...if there is no proof of origin, then these artefacts may well have been stolen. However more realistically, it's Constantine trying to score a few shillings at the expense of the country he professes to love. Either way, I don't know how Christie's could proceed with the auction.
That being said, Voulgarakis sure took his time in putting his foot down!

Why are they doing this? Is Marie-Chantal running out of money?

Hmmm. . . that's interesting. Is it confirmed that the Greek royals are actually the sellers, or is it merely strong speculation? I don't blame the government for being up in arms over this one.

It's speculation and Constatine is vehemently denying it. Thing is, there is a provenance for everything once in the possession of the royals, which documents how pieces change ownership. The government retained some of it, Constantine got the rest. Perhaps a few scattered pieces are in museums or private collections worldwide.
Thing is, if the government is questioning how these items made their way out of Greece, there is a concern over theft. It's been all over the Greek news shows for the past couple of days. It's a serious charge but frankly should have been raised when the auction was announced weeks ago (Greeks = notorious procrastinators). It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

I think that George I would have a shitfit if he could see how his heirs are behaving. He might beg to be assassinated all over again.

So annoyed that the Glucksburgs are putting on a "royal" wedding, and in Greece itself of all places...where are the anti-monarchists when we need them? Should be noted that this "news" is getting almost zero play in the Greek press.

Seems odd that none of the British royals showed up. Prince Philip is from the same family that gave us the Greek and Danish royal families.
Wonder what make Nikolaos decide to finally marry her? They've been dating for eons. Had to beat Prince Albert, maybe?

Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and their daughter Gabriella Windsor were there.
