I believe that medical practices do women as a whole a disservice. Miscarriages, abortion, menopause, fertility, vaginas, hormones, birth control, etc., are all things we are conditioned not to talk about because it's personal and so we don't. I think celebs who go public with their health issues can help us to have those conversations, but they don't owe us. I have no idea how we can get past this culture of medical silence. Exactly. People are open about most medical issues - no one hides their heart attack or pneumonia. But certain issues, particularly women's health and infertility, remain taboo to the disservice of us all. In the olden days (the 40s?) people didn't talk about cancer. So culturally we can - and have - changed. I also think not talking about it openly leads to people believing incorrect things, such as you can just freeze your eggs or medical science can make you have a baby at any age. It's not always the case, and people should have accurate information to make life decisions, not just Best Case Scenarios. But until we as a culture speak more openly about fertility and other issues, poor information will be out there and probably leading the pack.

I agree with all of this--wasn't there just a conversation about Valerie Harper and the misunderstandings around hospice? Obviously, not the same as reproduction, but again, death is not avoidable, and in many cases, people can make better choices, not just futile ones. It's not unrelated from the #metoo movement, and I think the same rules apply; the corollary is that the information should be valid (*cough* Jenny McCarthy).

The baby's full name is Raddix Chloe Wildflower Madden. At least the kid has options when she's older. If only her folks could have kept it to Chloe Wildflower Madden to start with.

Raddix sounds too much like Radish to me. But they can call her Raddie for short.

The more I look at it, the more I’m baffled by the inclusion of Chloe. Raddix Wildflower is almost delightfully nutty in its own way, and it’s kind of growing on me, even though it sounds like a shoe or perfume. Chloe is just kind of stuck in there. Full disclosure: it’s also a name a don’t especially care for, and also falls into the category of names I’ve heard more on pets.
ETA: the word radix has a lot of scientific meanings and associations, so I wonder if they were being d e e p when they chose it, like when Abelard and Hèloise named their son Astrolabe, or people I was friends of friends with chose Abraxas for their kid.

I guarantee the conversation went more like "Let's give her a rad name!" "Yeah, with an X in it!" Rad + X = Raddix.
Chloe Wildflower Madden is a fine name with the celebrity-flavored part in the middle. Raddix is ridiculous. Riddix, if you will.
