I think they are two separate issues - one is that Lionsgate bombarded the Academy members with DVDs of 'Crash" so they voted for it instead of any of the other nominated files when "Crash" was considered by many to be the worst of the bunch. The second is that a lot of them (supposedly) refused to see BBM because it is a "gay" movie, not because no one sent them a copy of it. But all the same, you certainly don't help your argument any when basically call a bunch of people stupid and then complain that they weren't smart enough to chose your film. Eh, what would help? They aren't going to do a hanging chad recount. Nothing is going to change this. Awards season is over. It's done.

And one more thing, all the articles I read in papers here about the movie didn't focused on the gay cowboy thing, but described it more of a story of people not able to deal with their own feelings. They are isolated not only from the world for being different but more from themselves. It's been exactly like this here as well. The sexuality has been pointed out, of course, but the media, and the general public, seem to agree that the movie is so much more than that. I really like that about my country.

I hope people stayed long enough during the credits to hear that absolutely heartbreaking song by Rufus Wainwright. I wish it had been featured IN the movie, and received an Oscar nom. The Willie song was awesome too, but the Rufus song just about ripped my damn heart out. This soundtrack is the first I have ever bought for a movie. All tracks are amazing. Yeah, the song you mentioned just embodies the heartbreak and love in the movie. I'd like to think it is Ennis's song for Jack. Also check out the other songs on the soundtrack. A love that will never grow old by Emmilou Harris, I don't want to say goodbye by Teddy Thomson, King of the Road by Rufus and Teddy are all standouts. The guitar themes alone are poignant, beautiful and haunting. Gustavo really did deserve the Oscar for his work.

I think people will remember "Brokeback Mountain" for a long time while "Crash" will be soon forgotten.
In fact it was forgotten by some people; I asked mom who watched the Oscars what won best picture and she could not remember, and she saw "Crash."
I can't wait until "Brokeback Mountain" comes on DVD! That day can't come soon enough.

Oh Randy. What a tool. I understand that he feels cheated because of the film's success, but does he really think that there was some sort of conspiracy to make people think the film was going to tank? Yeah, we will get a hunk has-been, a bunch of teen television stars and one legitimate star on the rise to star in a gay themed cowboy film. That equals hit for sure. When the producers and Ang Lee told you they didn't have any money and little hope of a success, they were obviously lying through their teeth (end sarcasm). I don't think anyone thought that BM would have this kind of success. Strong buzz doesn't necessarily translate into over 100 million at the box office especially with subject matter as controversial as this. I like Randy but this makes him look like an ass, imo.

...Really? 'Cause I had no idea who he was or who he played in BBM until I saw the picture with the article. Even then, I couldn't think of anything else I'd seen him in. Now, I'm no movie expert, but when you say "Quaid," Randy is not the first thing that comes to mind for me.

BWHAHAHA! Sorry, let me catch my breath. Seriously, what the hell? I had/have no idea who he is, I didn't know, nor did I care, what actor played that role. This makes Randy Quaid look so, so lame.

For reals. I immediately pictured Dennis Quaid when I first heard this story, and couldn't for the life of me remember seeing him in the movie. About a half hour later I realized who Randy Quaid is. Any of the actors who can be cast as "fat redneck" could have played that part. What a douche.
