Well I guess all of the people who have been waiting with baited breath for Orlando to fail again will get their wish.

I saw it at the Chicago Film Festival and I LOVED IT!
I don't know what movie the critics are watching, because I don't agree with anything. Orlando was fabulous in this movie. Yes, the boy can act. Kiki was great as well - quirky, but not annoying.
The movie is very funny, probably Cameron's most humorous to date. The movie also runs the gamut of emotions. Everyone in the movie is great - Orlando, Susan, Kirsten, Paula - everyone is.

Thanks for the positive vibes, sarcasticcheese. I plan to see the movie and form my own opinion. From what I've seen so far it looks damn good. People forget that he's still a rookie, even though he has gotten so much so soon. What I've seen shows me that he at least has potential.

Orlando is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. The movie is great. I liked it. It made me laugh.
I'm tired of the bad vibes coming from people who are jaded and biased because they see orlando's name. It probably isn't the best movie in the world but I'm tired of people treating it like it's a travesty because of Orlando.

It sounds like the thing everyone hates is that lots of things happen and then the plot goes nowhere in the end. Shame. Now I really am just seeing it for Orlando.
I like this one from Edge Boston
Heh.

If that's the best that critic can come up with, they really need to start looking for a different line of work. I've actually heard just the opposite. I can't wait to go see this tomorrow. And probably Sunday as well. Fark the critics - *sticks out tongue*! They're "JUS JELLUS!" How does that saying go, "Those that can, do. Those that can't, write about it?"

I'm torn. On the one hand I want the movie to succeed because even though I don't really feel one way or the other about Orlando Bloom, I feel bad for him now that everyone is anticipating his failure. On the otherhand Crazy Clam Cruise produced this film and so naturaly I want it to fail.
Off topic, but I just realised how difficult it is to say 'Crazy Clam Cruise' over and over. Its like a tongue twister.

I LOVED it. Saw it today after class with a couple friends it was great. I don't know what the critics are bitching about with the plot. Sure it was a bit long, but I felt the plot got wrapped up and things went somewhere. I mean <<I felt that Drew accepted the fact that he'd lost the $900 mil but he had everything to live for and there was some family closure with the dad's death>> that seemed to wrap things up pretty neatly. But I'm a sucker for "real life" movies like this.
My problem was the ending being <<the same as Garden State, with the kiss.>> But other than that I didn't make any connections to Garden State. Totally different movie with a slightly similar premise and way more funny. I'm such a Cameron Crowe fan though that he can do no wrong.
Oh my god, Jesse's son was hilarious. I was in fits because of that kid.
And "Freebird"? Made me immediately think of Arrested Development and GOB. "We can't use Freebird so it's FreeChicken now"
Orlando Bloom proved to me he's a good actor not a robot, I see he went for the high pitched American accent though. He was just so cute and he drove a car, wore a suit, used a cell phone, was clean-shaven, and didn't speak Elizabethan English, so I'm pretty pleased. And Miss Saggy Boobs didn't annoy me as much as I thought she would. I'll probably see it again this weekend.
Tom Cruise produced it? Either way you just can't win. Damn.

I generally find that Cameron Crowe does nothing for me... but several of my coworkers (who are film critics coincidentally) loved the movie (and they're the types that write scathing reviews of everything). Basically what they said was that it's not his best work (there's seems to be a consensus that the Orlando Bloom was slightly misscast) but that overall it's a really enjoyable, Cameron Crowe-y, touchy feely, makes you smile movie.
So, that said, I will probably try it, as I do with every Crowe movie.
