From what I understand King Charles has lead a very healthy lifestyle. That coupled with the longevity of both his parents and his material grandmother is what makes this so surprising to me. I still have not put my head round the fact that my next passport will have "HIS Majesty" on it.

They're generally a fairly long-lived family, his grandfather George V was unusual in dying so young. And he does live a healthy lifestyle, other than stress levels. Hopefully it was caught early and removed completely.

I’m not sure what people want him to do. I think most people just want Harry to visit his dad and not leak details about anything to the press. Basically not to turn the visit and ensuing news cycle into Harry’s and Meghan’s grievances against the family. I’d love Harry to act like a decent 40-yr old man and just visit his dad without making it into the Sussex Show.

From what I understand King Charles has lead a very healthy lifestyle. That’s the thing cancer, sure, you can do things to lessen your risk for it, but at the end of the day, if your cells decide to act differently, boom! You’ve got cancer. My aunt had passed away from colon cancer when she was in her mid 70s. It hit so fast. I think from her diagnosis to her death, it was all less than a year. She was the first person on my mom’s side of the family to ever have cancer. My grandparents both passed away from complications of Alzheimers in their late 80s.

So, basically, it seems Harry jumped on the plane to London without getting a sense from his dad (or Charles’s staff) about whether it was the right time to visit. That or Charles is purposefully keeping Harry at arm’s length.

Tried to keep myself as healthy as possible and still got cancer. It's a common disease, yet very specific to each individual. Even if two people are diagnosed with the same cancer. There are variations and every cancer patient/survivor responds differently to treatments and some might not even work as well depending on the person. Anyway. Sorry to get off-track, but I wish Charles well during his treatment(s).

Hopefully it was caught early and removed completely. You mean George VI, yes? He died at 56, and the fact that he smoked like a chimney was definitely a factor. The stress of the war years didn't help.

Yes, I forgot a number there, thanks!
I know he smoked before he became king, but he smoked even more afterwards to deal with the stress. He was a nervous person by temperament and finding himself on the throne in such painful circumstances would definitely strain his coping skills, especially given that he was still working to conquer his stutter.

I admire George VI so much more given the circumstances of his accession. Of course, his smoking habit didn’t help matters, but I’ve read a lot about the stress of becoming monarch after his brother’s abdication and all the subsequent headaches his sibling created for him.
